An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Analyst to join an exciting team based in Birmingham. The team is involved in some of the UK’s most interesting and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. They work closely with blue chip companies in sectors such as Water, Power, Rail, Aviation, Highways, Environmental, Nuclear, Pharmaceutical and Energy.
There is a salary on offer up to £29K which includes an excellent benefits package.
Role:
• Work across a variety of development projects understanding and enhancing existing systems. Ability to work to a functional specification or analytical framework is a large part of the role.
• Work with stakeholders to understand where potential enhancement opportunities exist and design and build new data analysis/statistical tools.
• Ensure that the quality of data across a variety of tools and systems is accurate and functional.
• Responsible for testing/analytical development cycles. Sometimes you will be testing and other times you will be developing. It is critical in this role that both can be undertaken.
• Knowledge of how Monte Carlo simulation works and be able to configure analysis given a set of parameters. Ability to explain why MC is used over an analytical solution.
• Responsible for accuracy of Risk and Uncertainty analysis including random variable mechanics and be able to explain to a non-mathematician how such a process works.
• Responsible for configuring distributions to a data set such that the correct distribution is assigned given a problem type.
• Responsible for working within the clients parameters, sometimes the best solution is not possible and an ability to understand which compromise will work for the client is critical.
• Deliver all work outputs in an accurate and timely manner
• Be able to take a brief from a client and assist in the preparation and delivery of fee proposals and presentations.
• Be a strong team player but demonstrate the ability to take a leadership role as part of personal development planning.
Requirements:
• Undergraduate degree in Mathematics/Engineering/Computer Science.
• Advanced Microsoft Office Skills, especially Excel. Knowledge of Visual Basic for applications is critical.
• Experience with SQL Server databases including use of SQL
• Strong Skills in statistics especially in the area of probability theory, i.e. dealing with random processes.
• Skilled at sharing knowledge and working in a large team environment.
• Ability to think outside the box and overcome roadblocks with abstract thinking.
• Strong time management skills, i.e. ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.
• Self-motivated, takes initiative and able to work under deadlines.
• Ability to take functional specifications and develop timely and accurate tools and analysis.
• Understands the importance of accuracy and resilient data analysis.
• Has the ability to communicate with all levels of Senior Management, and can provide clear and concise communication in all formats.
• Working knowledge of infrastructure works, particularly highways schemes.
