Economic Analyst - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 6 months with potential for extension

Contracting Authority: Network Rail

Location: hybrid – 2/3 days a week in central London

As an Economic Analyst, your main responsibilities would be:

  • Manage stakeholder conversations, such as those with GBRTT, DfT and NR regions.
  • Investigating the detail of a railway enhancement scheme to develop an appraisal to inform future investment decisions.
  • Through your analysis of future demand forecasts be involved in the delivery of Long Term Strategic Planning for the railway.
  • Help to inform the industry on the impact of recent events on Passenger and Freight demand to help steer the direction of long term investment planning.

You’ll have relevant experience in:

  • Experience and knowledge of transport appraisal and demand forecasting.
  • Experience of analysing large datasets and using complex analytical frameworks to support decisions.
  • Project management experience, delivering small to medium sized research and appraisal projects.
  • Experience of delegating specific tasks and supervising others in the completion of these tasks.
  • Proven ability to innovate and create solutions to complex modelling issues.
  • Good presentation skills adjusting presentation style to differing audiences.
  • Proven ability in drafting technical notes which are clear and concise and understood by others.
  • Good appreciation of project risk issues and application of these to day-to-day tasks.
  • Understanding of financial/business plan information.
  • Experience of working in a regulatory environment, preferably Network Rail or a similar agency/authority.
  • Good understanding of the economic issues faced by Network Rail.
  • Experience of using database software or Geographical Information Systems.

You will also have these Qualifications/Skills:

  • Masters degree in related field (transport planning, economics etc)
  • Previous use of MOIRA, webTAG or PDFH is highly desirable.
