Engineering Performance Analyst in Swindon, Wiltshire, United Kingdom

Engineering Performance Analyst
Location: Swindon

Who we are:

GWR is the proud custodian of one of the most prestigious railway networks in the world. Our services call at over 275 stations, carrying more than 100 million passengers every year.

We’re currently seeing the biggest investment in the network since the young Brunel turned the idea of a Bristol to London railway into a brilliant working reality. We are already running new trains, providing more seats and faster journeys – as well as continuing to connect more businesses to new and prosperous markets.

Our commitment is to our customers. We aim to transform the way people think about rail travel by setting a new standard – a better experience for our customers. Together we will restore the railways as a very special way to travel – relaxing, fast, efficient, friendly and fun.

If you share our passion for the railway then we would love to hear from you.

About the role

As the Engineering Performance Analyst you will be working within a close knit team of friendly enthusiastic engineers. Most are Traction & Rolling Stock engineers, but we also have members who specialise in IT systems, standards, materials, safety & quality systems. Based in Swindon you will have plenty of opportunity to travel our network and visit our engineering depots. You will have a privileged position working with the depots and fleet teams and this is an excellent opportunity to understand, in depth, the full range of rolling stock GWR operates as well as contribute to its improving performance.

What you'll be doing

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Leading the management and analysis of Engineering Safety and Performance data for all GWR fleets.
  • Ensuring that the safety and reliability performance of all the GWR fleets is measured, recorded, analysed and presented.
  • To develop systems of performance reporting that maximise the value of this data in driving fleet improvements.
  • Acting as the Engineering HQ interface for the reporting and monitoring of this data across all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining and improve relevant databases supporting fleet management activities.
  • Representing GWR at relevant industry groups.

Who we're looking for

You'll need to be:

  • A highly motivated and committed individual.
  • Able to work to deadlines managing multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and be self-directed but also able to effectively work with teams at HQ and within depots.
  • Able to gather data and carry out root cause analysis of failure and defect modes.
  • Have a flexible approach and ability to work varied times and/or out of hours.
  • Prepared to work away from home location for short periods of time.

As a minimum you'll need to have:

  • A proven T&RS engineering technical background.
  • Qualified technician in railway T&RS maintenance and repair having served a recognised engineering apprenticeship or qualified to NVQ level 3 in engineering competencies or a relevant engineering degree.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Effective verbal, written and IT skills.
  • Knowledge of Rail Industry maintenance regimes and T&RS systems.

The Reward:

As well as a great team environment and comprehensive training, all GWR colleagues enjoy a range of benefits including defined benefit salary pension scheme, free rail travel across the GWR network for you and your family, company-sponsored health care plan, and an Employee assistance programme.

The more varied our workforce, the broader the expertise within our organisation. And the broader our expertise, the greater our chances of innovation and success. That's why we're committed to equality of opportunity, diversity and inclusion at every level.
