Overview
Due to a departure, an exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Lead Risk and Safety Intelligence Analyst role within RSSB’s Risk and Safety Intelligence (RSI) team. The main purpose will be to take a leading role in the many varied risk modelling and analysis activities that RSI undertakes and promote their use within the rail industry through engagement with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and carry out risk modelling, analysis and research activities including:
- The development and maintenance of the RSSB Safety Risk Model (SRM).
- Leading and providing technical oversight of the SRM and developing RSI analysts’ capability.
- Modelling, analysing and assessing railway system safety risk and assisting in communicating and promoting the understanding of the risk profile and the major risk contributors to the industry.
- Engage with RSSB members to help and enable them to make best use of the SRM and RSI’s capability to solve their problems.
- Provide expertise and consultancy support on risk and safety data analysis. This includes work to support other RSI products and services, other RSSB projects and potentially commercial activity for external clients.
- Develop, maintain and improve processes, guidance, tools and techniques to support the value, relevance and quality of RSSB’s risk analysis provision.
- Lead and provide technical support and risk expertise to the Leading Health and Safety on Britain’s Railways (LHSBR) strategy and groups.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of risk assessment and risk management issues, within and outside the rail industry, through continual professional development.
Qualifications
Essential:
- An analyst’s toolset such as that gained on a STEM degree course and/or developed through practical career application, which includes:
- Experience of quantified analysis.
- Experience of building models to analyse complex problems.
- Using analysis and models to assess issues, identify solutions and draw conclusions.
- Working knowledge of risk assessment and risk management techniques.
- An inquisitive mind with experience of applying analytical thinking and problem-solving with an ability to quickly understand complex information.
- Able to be autonomous and proactive, self-motivated and be able to act on own initiative.
- Ability to plan and manage own workload as well as that of others to meet deadlines.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to:
- Identify and communicate technical information clearly, succinctly and in an engaging way to different audiences.
- Interact and build relationships with our internal and external customers and our members.
Desirable:
- Experience of quantified risk analysis and assessment and/or using risk models would be an advantage but not essential.
- Knowledge of railway operations and an understanding of the hazards present and/or health and safety management would be an advantage but is not essential for fast learners, who will be given opportunities to develop in the role.
- Hold or be working towards professional accreditation.
