VGC are looking for Steel Fixer apprentices to join us on HS2.
Job purpose:
The primary role of a steel fixer is to assemble and erect the steel components required to strengthen reinforced concrete structures, such as bridges. You will be working as part of a larger team in which you will have responsibility for constructing reinforcement for columns, beams, walls and floors.
Duties include:
Setting out the work area
Following engineering plans
Using hand and power tools to cut and bend bars or mesh
Tying steel reinforcement bars to build cages
Fitting spacers and connectors
Interpreting contract information, drawing and specifications in order to assemble and install the components correctly
Skills / experience
Basic understanding of health and safety issues relating to the apprenticeship
Accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work effectivity as part of a team
Willing to learn and take responsibility for personal development
Apprenticeship overview
English and Maths qualifications (GCSE Grades A-C / 4-9) form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed during the apprenticeship if not already achieved and prior to formal assessment
