Business Development Manager – Crewe / Doncaster
Role overview
Working as part of the sales team within the Products Business, based at our Crewe or Doncaster site, this role will take responsibility for the development and sales growth of a selected group of Unipart Rail Customers. Focused on sales growth and the winning of new business, you will be required to work with teams from across the business to ensure you meet Unipart Rail’s targets for sales, profit and growth.
The role is principally focused on UK & Ireland heavy/light rail and infrastructure sectors. The position will require travel, sometimes at short notice, as and when required.
Main Responsibilities
• Achievement of sales targets, profit and growth for designated customers – both in sales and margins.
• Understand, articulate and sell Unipart Rail’s product and service propositions.
• Retaining and growing business from existing core customers.
• Identifying and converting Business Development opportunities across the sector.
• Undertaking financial analysis of all sales ensuring margins are maximised and profit delivered in line with plan.
• Ensuring the maintenance and development of account plans/Gold Sheets/Blue Sheets for all targeted customers.
• Attending regular contract and performance reviews across the customer base to enhance satisfaction ensuring retention and growth.
• Working with the Operations team to ensure all customers requirements are delivered upon.
• Attendance at Strategic Reviews (internal and external) supporting the Head of Sales.
• Working closely with the Product Management team to deliver new products to the market.
• To maintain CRM with all relevant customer information and opportunities.
• Maintenance of extensive knowledge of market conditions.
• Supporting the deployment of the Customer Engagement System ensuring collaborative working practice.
• Working with the sales operations team to plan, prepare and deliver responses to ITT/RFQ, presentations and proposals to existing and prospective customers.
• Production of management information for both internal and external use to deliver improvements and exceed customers expectations.
• Working with legal in the preparation of GTC reviews.
• Working closely with management across the Division to identify opportunity for growth.
• Managing and representing the business at conferences, fairs and networking events.
Person Specification
• Previous experience operating in a sales role with experience / skills in the following:
• Ability to sell and negotiate with closing skills.
• Contract negotiations.
• Commercial deal structuring.
• Proposition development.
• Proposal/bid creation.
• Contracts and legal terms.
• Customer engagement system and competencies.
• Excellent stakeholder management
• Professional presentation style
• Knowledge of CRM systems and Miller Heiman Blue and Gold sheets.
• High degree of numeracy skills.
• Knowledge of supply chain activities.
• Knowledge of the rail industry and Engineering is highly desirable.
• International experience / language skills would be highly desirable.
