Business Development Planner

Reports to: Business Development Manager

Operating Company: Freightliner UK (‘the Company’)

Location: Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire

Key Stakeholders:

  • Freightliner UK Management and staff.
  • Network Rail

Purpose of the Role:

To develop robust train plans and train crew diagrams for new business enquiries. Provide commercial managers with detailed technical information to assist them in pricing new business opportunities.

To work within the planning team to ensure that new traffic is planned in line with the model created for the commercial team.

Look at introducing efficiencies within existing contractual train plans.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the planning team to create and deliver a base train plan as required to meet customer and Freightliner obligations.
  • Meet strict deadlines
  • Bid to Network Rail for any variations to the WTT plan.
  • Create base traincrew diagrams in line with existing T&Cs
  • Liaising as necessary with industry partners and suppliers.
  • Work with operations and contracts managers as required.
  • Work as directed by your manager.

Financial

  • Focussed on continuous improvement to enhance efficiencies and effectiveness in the planning team.

  • Contribute to the improvement of the safety culture.
  • Taking reasonable care of own health and safety and that of any person who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
  • Comply with health and safety legislation.
  • Carrying out any work in accordance with any training, instruction or company procedure that is relevant to the position.
  • Informing your line manager of any health and safety problems identified by yourself or identified to you by other people.
  • Using any safety equipment provided by Freightliner that you have been trained to use in a proper and appropriate manner.
  • All staff to comply with the Drugs and Alcohol policy RG-GEN 023.

People

  • Work collaboratively with team members and other departments.

Key job requirements:

  • A good knowledge of railway operations with a sound knowledge of railway geography is required.
  • Excellent Planning and time management skills.
  • Logical thinker with an analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Good computer skills, including the ability to use general office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
