Competence Development Specialist – Engineering Maintenance

The Competence Development Specialist will take responsibility for ensuring that all maintenance team members hold correct training and qualifications to fulfil engineering maintenance duties in line with Railway Group Standards.
This role will see you play an instrumental part in assessing, coaching and developing engineering colleagues and ensuring this Train Operating Company’s fleet performs to the highest of safety and reliability standards.
The Role and Responsibilities
The principal responsibility for the Competence Development Specialist is to ensure all engineering and maintenance staff competencies align with the organisation’s Competence Management System and industry standards.
This will include;
- Providing engineering training colleagues and management stakeholders with competence reports to schedule necessary training
- Collaborating with training team to develop appropriate training packages
- Mentoring engineering colleagues to ensure product knowledge and understanding of developing rules, regulations and standards is kept up to date
- Championing continuous improvement of the Competence Management System, aligning with regulations and best practices.
- Generating auditable records and monthly KPI reports detailing training progress, incidents, and actions, fostering accountability and transparency.
This crucial role will require you to build effective relationships with engineering colleagues to ensure team training and development can be planned and delivered with consideration to operational demands and service delivery.

Remuneration
The role falls inside IR35, with a day rate of between £250 to £300 subject to your experience. The engagement will be for an initial 6 months with an expectation of extension to 12 months.
About You
You will be an experienced Rolling Stock engineering / maintenance professional, familiar with a diverse range of electrical and mechanical rolling stock systems and the importance of effective engineering procedures and standards to optimise service delivery.
You will hold an assessor’s qualification (TAQA or equivalent) and demonstrate a track record of building exceptional stakeholder relationships.
PTS is required for this role, so you must hold or be able to obtain this without limitation.
