The Public Transport Authority of Western Australia (PTA), is an innovative Government Agency and a highly sought-after employer offering once in a lifetime opportunities to work on major rail infrastructure projects. The PTA is looking for qualified and experienced engineers and transport professionals to help grow and maintain the state’s public transport network.
In addition to maintaining the existing network the Government has recently commenced a major program of rail projects named METRONET with the aim of updating & extending the Perth metropolitan rail network and is looking for experienced rail engineers across a number of disciplines to help deliver these exciting phases of work
We are looking to hear from Engineering & Development Managers interested in emigrating to Australia or relocating interstate to Perth. This position is responsible for the development of projects and engineering management for the Projects and Program (P&P) Branch. Acts as the liaison point between P&P and the PTAs Engineering Managers with regards to engineering management. Accountable for working with the Network and Infrastructure (N&I) discipline Branches and program managers to generate a timely pipeline of deliverable work to optimise the value added by P&P where P&P are chosen as the delivery vehicle.
Core duties and responsibilities:
Leadership
- Implementation and ongoing leadership of the Engineering Management for Projects consisting of competency, stakeholder and technical performance, and processes developments for the employees who adopt these key roles.
- Leads the competency assessment for engineering resources to support projects.
- Leads on the interfaces to enable more efficient system solutions through the integration of activities, applying a system wide approach to solutions and uses expertise and influencing skills to challenge requirements where appropriate.
- Develops and implements an engagement strategy that optimises the value of the supply chain.
- Introduces improvements to safety through a safe by design work-stream that adopts and implements best practice within N&I.
- Coordinates the resource planning for engineering resources required to support projects throughout their lifecycle.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of the PTA’s policies and strategies as they relate to program and project management.
- Identifies and implements opportunities to maximise efficient and effective program delivery.
- Oversees the development of projects within N&I to generate a timely pipeline of deliverable work.
- Develops the work bank for the Engineering Services Panel with regards to project development and delivery.
Liaison and Networking
- Manages engineering supplier relationships at the Divisional level.
- Develops and maintains close working relationships with other Divisions, transport agencies and government agencies.
To be suitable for the role you will ideally have:
- Engineering degree in a rail engineering discipline that would satisfy the requirements of Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
- Broad technical knowledge across rail operations, track infrastructure, power systems, signalling and communications.
- Detailed knowledge of the development requirements for successful project and experience implementing these.
- Knowledge of design assurance using requirements verification/validation methods.
- Proven track record in client management of major projects and working with sponsors, regulatory bodies and other major stakeholders.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant railway engineering standards.
- Proven experience in making strategic decisions with financial, safety and operational impact and results.
- Highly developed leadership skills with the ability to lead others at all levels and build team effectiveness across the organisation.
- Demonstrated business management skills including managing resources, converting strategies into operational plans, and achieving operational outcomes.
