Assistant Buyer in Lingfield, Surrey, Surrey, United Kingdom
A fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Buyer to join a growing rail engineering contractor. In this role you will play a key part in the purchasing of all materials for our projects and have an involvement in Plant procurement for the company.
We are looking to recruit an Assistant Buyer looking to further their career in a construction environment. You will need to possess experience in a buying/procurement role with in the construction industry, ideally with some rail and plant experience but this is not essential.
BCM is a company undergoing a business transformation. The Board of Directors have put a strategy in place to build on the solid foundations established by the company from over 30 years of trading. The company will deliver sales of circa £32m in its 2016/17 financial period and has ambitions to deliver turnover growth of 25%-30% year-on-year until sales reach >£100m/annum.
The reason behind this desire for growth is to make more efficient use of company overhead and enable the company to convert more Tier 1 opportunities. Over 70% of current sales are through direct contracts with Network Rail.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
• To assist the Purchasing Manager to purchase all material to the company’s exact business requirements by collating and analysing order requirements and supplier information.
• Send out enquiries for appropriate materials, collate and analyse quotations.
• As required, place orders with suitable suppliers for specified materials ensuring goods are delivered on the required date and purchased at the most competitive rates and within budget.
• Use and update eVision Accounts system to support Commercial team.
• Update and manage the BCM Approved Suppliers List ensuring all relevant documents are live.
• Help administer and control BCM Plant and tool hire.
• Review supplier performance. Cross-department liaison and engagement on issues such as - delivery, cost and quality
• Passing information onto suppliers regarding damaged, sub-standard incorrect orders along with solving invoice queries.
• Evaluate feedback from site personnel regarding the quality of materials, delivery requirements & safety & environmental performance action.
• Provide general administrative support for the Purchasing team.
• Attend training courses / seminars and read trade press / appropriate websites to keep current with legislation and best practice.
• Building relationships, negotiating and managing supplier performance
• Know the broad principles of the Health & Safety at Work Act, the Construction Regulations, relevant Railway Group and Network Rail Company Standards and other current relevant health and safety legislation, Approved Codes of Practices and official guidance.
• Other duties as deemed appropriate by the purchasing manager.
