CAD Technician (Rail)


**Contract (initially 12 months)**


 
We are currently working with a consultancy looking to recruit CAD Technicians to support the existing Network Rail Internal Design Team (IDT) based in Heaton Mersey (Stockport) on a contracting basis. As CAD Technician you will be involved in the production of designs for a range of civils renewals schemes across the Network Rail North, West and Central (NW&C) region. You will be responsible for the creation of design predominantly relating to structures works.


As CAD Technician your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Work with the Civil Engineers to provide design solutions.
  • Created scheme drawings with minimal supervision.
  • Ordering OS tiles from NR catalogue.
  • Using conventional measuring and surveying techniques to build up as-build/existing condition drawings.
  • Xref surveys undertaken by external bodies into drawings.
  • Carry out LIDAR point cloud scans using in-house surveying equipment.
  • Utilising detail exams to input defects onto existing condition drawings.
  • Amend drawings based on engineers mark ups (both electronic and pen)
  • Add H&S data onto drawings.
  • Up-rev drawings based on comments received from inter-disciplinary checks.
  • This role will principally but a support role for the Design Engineer who takes the professional lead in the design process, however the team philosophy is to encourage all team members to use their initiative to solve problems which may involve unconventional ways of working.
  • Support the construction design management (CDM) principal designer in all associated duties and carry out or monitor cross-discipline engineering checks of all relevant aspects of the proposal.
  • Lead the engineering interfaces of allocated proposals with concurrent work in other disciplines, or within other programmes.
  • Act as or liaise with the appropriate Contractors Responsible Engineer during GRIP stages 2-6 to so that method statements for site works and surveys are produced and approved to the required standards.
  • Monitor, assess, evaluate, and audit Consultants and Contractors during GRIP stages 2-6
 

Job requirements:
  • 2 years relevant AutoCAD experience
  • Understanding of civil engineering and construction principles
  • Good CAD skills and engineering knowledge
  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of the rail industry (desirable)
  • Experience working within a Network Rail team using NR systems such as geo-RINM (desirable)
  • MICE EngTech recognition
  • PTS Card
  • Knowledge of OS Digital Mapping Formats
  • Railway experience
  • God desktop software skills
As mentioned, this role as Contract CAD Technician is based in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, with the option for hybrid working (minimum 3 days a week in the office per week). The contracting opportunity is for a duration of 12 months initially with the opportunity for further extension thereafter.
