CAD Technician in York, Yorkshire and the Humber, United Kingdom

We now have an exciting opportunity with a global engineering business for a CAD Technician with a background in Rail. You will need to live within a commutable distance of our clients offices in either York or London, however, it will be mainly remote working. The purpose of the role is to assist the Electrification Lead CAD Engineer in ensuring that the business can effectively deliver CAD and BIM to meet client requirements.

This is a 6-month rolling contract on a rate of up to £350 a day, inside IR35.

Principal responsiblities:

  • Manage your own workload and the CAD data production for major projects, Network Rail & London Underground within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Support core CAD delivery across design team.
  • Producing and amending a variety of electrical engineering design drawings prepared by the Design Team. This includes preparing drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, charts and ordnance survey plans including various elevations in order to support the drawings; existing and new Substation layouts; cable route layouts etc.
  • Ensure an integrated design solution is presented for all projects. This will extend to working and interfacing with Network Rail & London Underground other third parties as appropriate to produce a homogeneous solution.
  • Deliver on time and at a budgeted cost without compromising the quality of product or service is a critical success factor.
  • To produce fully compliant suitable drawings to meet the requirements of the contract.
  • Provide support to the design team that covers cross discipline work streams to provide an integrated solution for the customer.

Key skills/experience required:

  • Demonstrable experience working in the rail sector for an electrical biased discipline, such as Distribution and or E&P.
  • Proficiency in the following software packages as a minimum: Bentley Microstation CONNECT (2D & 3D), Autocad (2D / 3D), Navisworks or Bentley Navigator, Bentley ProjectWise Explorer
  • Experience producing drawings for a substation environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of 3D design tools.
  • Knowledge of electrification design processes working within a multiple discipline engineering environment.
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience of Network Rail & London Underground CAD standards.
  • Identify, interpret and apply client CAD standards where required.
  • Proven safety management knowledge including CDM requirements.
  • Proven ability to undertake CAD clash detection.
