Position is for a Calibration Inspector. In this role, you will calibrate assets used across the TfL estate, making a major contribution to the safe and effective running of London Underground.

Key accountabilities

• Maintain all paperwork, reports and input data to computers
• Ensure that the work area and all plant and equipment are maintained in a clean, tidy and safe condition
• Use correctly all hand and power tools
• Use correctly and accurately measuring and testing equipment
• You will drive workshops vehicles to and from outlying work sites as may be required

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Skills

• Ability to work to fine tolerances to check measuring equipment (Essential)
• Able to read engineering drawings and specifications to enable calibration of electrical equipment and mechanical gauges (Essential)
• Ability to calibrate tools, mechanical gauges and equipment to specified tolerances, traceable to National Standards (Essential)
• Ability to inspect work to specified standards and sign off equipment as fit for purpose (Essential)
• Ability to familiarise other employees in job and product requirements (Desirable)
• Able to communicate effectively with manager and other members of staff (Desirable)
• Ability to follow LUL practices on smoking, alcohol, drugs and attendance to duty (Essential)

Knowledge and Experience

• Have served a craft-based apprenticeship, leading to the award of C&G 205 / BTEC / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification (Essential)
• Alternatively (without serving a craft-based apprenticeship), hold a BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (Essential)
• Hold a full driving licence (Desirable)

You may be required to undergo an LU medical. Training is available for the successful candidate on mechanical and electrical products, to support the department’s growth.
