GIS Technician in Birmingham, United Kingdom
Job Description:
Reporting to the BIM manager or engineering team, you will be responsible for undertaking GIS data preparation and design data integration, data management, analysis, mapping and visualization on our project. A senior GIS expert will support the GIS technician.
The GIS technician will be in touch with several stakeholders about different disciplines. The GIS technician will be able to understand and propose solutions to integrate their requests in the GIS platform.
The role may include working on projects internationally for Egis Rail or other Egis subsidiaries. The role will also require supporting the organisation to build and grow as directed by management.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Collect and enrich information to feed the GIS
- Process data from the design team
- Consolidated data into a geographic information systems (GIS) database
- Perform spatial analysis
- Create automatic processes to integrate data into a GIS database and perform treatments
- Develop workflow processes and documentation
- Produce 2D and 3D models to share GIS and CAD data into web and mobile applications
- Work with the BIM Manager, to ensure the association of GIS and BIM
- Work with the planning team and project managers to deliver GIS construction strategy
- Provide GIS story maps and thematic maps to support the teams for public engagement
- Ability to identify innovative solutions to problems
- Assist the teams by using GIS applications
- Ability to organise own workload and be able to work autonomously
- To undertake such other duties as the organisation may reasonably require
Necessary requirements:
Essential:
- ArcGIS Pro / ArcGIS for Desktop
- ArcGIS Online / Portal for ArcGIS
- City Engine
- Data interoperability or FME
- ESRI model builder
- ArcGIS collector App
- PostgreSQL
- Basic experience of programming in either Python, SQL or VBA
- Transportation systems general knowledge
- GIS experience : implementing, maintaining and usin
- Well-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines
- As part of the MMA design team you need to be a good team player and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Have multi-disciplinary project experience
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable:
- A knowledge of the concept of BIM would be a plus.
- Experience in railway/tramway industry is desirable
Qualifications
- Technical qualification GIS Master Degree – Geography / Geology related degree
