Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent P-Way Technician to join our AIW (IM) account in Pontypridd – on site role.
AIW(IM) is the infrastructure Manager for the railway network running from Cardiff to Treherbert, Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, Coryton, Rhymney and Cwmbargoed (known as the Core Valleys Lines). It manages all the assets across this network.
P-Way Technician provides the essential link between the team leader and the team’s operatives. Plays an important role in the inspection of the P-Way network ensuring the integrity of the track and all associated assets. This includes but not limited to sleeper condition, Ballast conditions and identification of rail defects, as well as keeping accurate records in a time critical manner. A natural team player, you’ll also be able to lead the team when asked by the team leader. You’ll use your skills to deliver work safely and will check the team has the right competencies to meet our strict safety standards. You’ll also be a role model for safe working behaviours and be confident to challenge any potential risks to safety, so that everyone gets home safe every day.
The standard hours of work are 40 hrs per week with some weekend and nights and there is a requirement to carry out on call work as and when required. (You would need to be based approximately 60 minutes from site)
You will be responsible for:
- Carrying out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other relevant instructions.
- Inspection of the P-Way network ensuring the integrity of the track and all associated assets. This includes but not limited to sleeper condition, Ballast conditions and identification of rail defects.
- Undertake and direct work activities in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.
- Control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
- Establish and maintain appropriate safety arrangements for staff under your control including Contractors.
- Consistently role model safe behaviours and are confident to challenge if you think a situation is unsafe.
- Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies.
- Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment, and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.
- Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required.
- Contribute to your own development and that of others along with keeping up to date with new standards, procedures and instructions.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.

- Full UK driving license - Essential
