Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent PWay Track Inspection Technician join our Rail Delivery Team in Cardiff.

PWay Track Inspection Technician plays an important part in providing support to the Team Leader to organise and motivate the team and the team’s operatives to undertake and deliver work safely, efficiently and to the relevant track and safety standards. Undertake inspection, faulting, maintenance, and renewal work as allocated. Where directed, act as Team Leader.

The standard hours of work are 40 hour per week. Technician roles involve a changing shift pattern including days, nights, and weekends.

You will be responsible for:

  • Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other relevant instructions.
  • Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent.
  • Undertake and direct work activities in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.
  • Control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate safety arrangements for staff under your control including Contractors.
  • Consistently role model safe behaviours and are confident to challenge if you think a situation is unsafe
  • Have knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance, and renewal techniques in the discipline that you are applying for.
  • Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies.
  • Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment, and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.
  • Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required.
  • Contribute to your own development and that of others along with keeping up to date with new standards, procedures and instructions.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.

This position is a safety critical role which has a level of responsibility within PWay.

Undertaking inspections and making confident decisions to make an impact on the PWay section of the project. Technicians provide the essential link between the team leader and the team’s operatives.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work.
  • Knowledge of how to organise and control the safe and efficient delivery of work.
  • Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
  • Able to lead, motivate and direct a team.
  • Strong communication skills and be able to deliver clear instructions to the team and other colleagues.
  • Knowledge of permanent way inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques.
  • Conversant with standards, procedures and instructions.
  • Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by business need.
  • Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 1 or 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained an appropriate level of knowledge through equivalent relevant experience.
  • Driving Licence - Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
  • Experience in S&C inspection and plain line inspection. (Desirable)
  • Minimum of 5years experience working in a railway environment
