Job Title: Rolling Stock In Service Support Technician / Control Room Technician
Location: Romford

Job Details:
To provide immediate in service technical support to services requiring technical assistance by communicating safety critical and technical advice verbally to train-crew. Protect the Train Plan and Performance Regime by reducing delays through real time diagnostic response information to train-crew, and ownership of improving "in traffic" reliability of the Units.
Responsible for ensuring any failures are managed safely and effectively within the defined response times. Direct technical support to any failure or escalate safety related faults to the engineering team for investigation or via the On-call procedure.
Report all defects in accordance with all Railway Safety Standards Boards procedures and Bombardier's defect reporting procedures.
Key responsibilities:
Receive and relay verbal instructions to train-crew and out-station staff that has a direct impact on the safe movement of vehicles that could significantly affect the health or safety of persons throughout the operation.
Notify relevant personnel & stakeholders immediately of any matters which are or may be safety critical in respect of a Unit, Vehicle, and items of equipment, DOO CCTV station subsystem or infrastructure defect.
Undertake first line fault investigations and make informed decisions into the course of action and prioritisation required to rectify defects and alerts.
Report and record all faults in accordance with the Fault Notification Procedure.
Manage real time fault alerts reported from the Units through to the ORBITA asset management system. Interrogate diagnostic data and provide clear and concise instructions to ensure all faults are managed in accordance with all instructions, procedures and prioritise the fault workload accordingly.
Ensure all fault alerts are processed and reported into the maintenance management system, and monitor any repeat defects occurring on Units. Ensure all data entered in the maintenance management system is accurate and reflects all the relevant facts.
Undertake fleet short term planning activities (eg updating the maintenance management system with fleet daily miles run, updating specific exam planning sheets)
Ensure Units are on planned "maintenance diagrams" and liaise with Route Control Centre staff to ensure Units return back to depot within their planned maintenance mileage tolerances.
Direct technical in service support staff to any Unit that develops a safety critical fault, or will have a major impact on the operational performance of the service.
Work with the Train Operating Companies "cut and run" policy to protect their Train Plan, whilst maintaining the requirements for the Exam Plan of the Units, and at all times ensure the safe movement of trains is maintained.
Liaise with the outstation staff undertaking overnight servicing of the Units at the stabling locations, and inform the Cleaning Auditor & Train Preparer of any defects requiring attention.
Liaise with the Network Rail infrastructure Manager, as necessary, where any overhead line outages will require specific procedures to be followed for lowering pantographs.
Qualifications & Functional Knowledge:
Education
Ideally qualified to HNC level and served an approved apprenticeship or equivalent practical training, or experience on modern train maintenance activities in a function of ISO 9000 procedures
Relevant experience required (i.e. directly linked to the requirements of the position/role)
*Minimum of 3 years' experience, preferably on modern traction and rolling stock, and related experience in a "hands on capacity" is desirable.
*Good understanding of mechanical, electrical and electronic principles, and pneumatics
*Computer literate.
*Good understanding of English language (written and verbal),
Specialized or cross-functional knowledge / relevant experience required by the position/role
*Relevant experience and track record in management or supervision is required (in a similar environment, i.e.: 24 hours, 7 days a week service industry).
*Ability to control and work in a small highly motivated team.
*Able to communicate at a professional and technical level with the customer, team and senior management.
*Ability to manage work to ensure maximum continual service provision by maintaining a highly motivated self-awareness.
*Able to be a coach for team members in maintaining professional standards when dealing with a dynamic and evolving event (such as train failure / line blockage) that require immediate communication with the Customer and their train crew.
