Senior Cad Technician in York, York, United Kingdom
What is the purpose of this role?
To assist the Engineering Team with the development and production of technically sound, high quality, innovative and complex design solutions, including all associated drawing production and reporting.
Tasks (Needs To Do):
- Planning, checking, directing and assisting with drawing production.
- Assisting with the implementation of effective, value for money and innovative design solutions.
- Assisting Engineers with site inspection work, feasibility studies, report preparation and Quality Assurance responsibilities.
- Assisting with the preparation of technical documentation and reports, simple calculations, bar bending schedules, specifications, quantities etc.
- Maintaining high technical standards, consistent with the project brief under direction from the Engineering team and the Amey CAD manual.
- Complying with the relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations, Client standards and process; including ProjectWise.
- Maintaining a strong focus on timely delivery.
- Planning and estimating drawing production for less experienced colleagues, and confidently deliver against these plans with appropriate contingency.
- Dealing with project related correspondence, including Client comments and Contractor queries.
- Convey principles and sketches using hand drawn techniques and SketchUp etc. type software.
- Prepare 3D drawings, rendered and or photo-montaged images as necessary.
- Research and interpret existing/old/historical as built data.
- Deal with 3D survey data, point cloud information, non-metric (ie: imperial) data.
Relationships
- Work under the guidance or instruction from Engineers as required by the project.
- Liaise with specialist members of the Project Team, Client Project Managers, Professional Excellence Software Service Line team, and other Amey staff, as required.
- Work with office CAD manager, Group CAD manager, Project Manager, and relevant engineering team members.
- Mentor and guide less experienced technicians and graduate engineers etc.
Essential Skills, experience and qualifications (Needs to know):
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD
- Excellent knowledge of reinforcement and steelwork detailing.
- Excellent knowledge of Microstation and ProjectWise.
- HNC / HND, or equivalent in Civil Engineering desirable.
- Good IT Skills, including Skype, Yammer and Sharepoint.
- Knowledge of British Standards/Eurocodes.
- Knowledge of Network Rail and Railway Group Standards desirable.
- Excellent knowledge of Network Rail standard details.
- Good communication skills dealing with Engineers, other Technicians, the wider project team, suppliers of proprietary products/equipment etc.
- Developing and sharing best practice.
- Experience of innovative designs and value engineering. Experience of working within the rail industry or similarly complex domains advantageous.
- Experience of working in other rail disciplines (eg: Track) advantageous. Experience of Building Information Modelling (BIM) advantageous.
- Client focused approach to service delivery.
- Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence advantageous.

Safety Responsibility Statement
- To attend and participate in Amey quarterly Safety/Team briefings.
- To attend all site inductions and site briefings as required, and comply with all site rules and Safe System of Work requirements.
- To comply with Amey procedures including Alcohol and Drugs, Fatigue Management, Work Safe, Target Zero, Activity Risk Assessments, CDM, Site planning etc.
- To support and comply with Network Rail Lifesaving Rules.
- To use the Amey Close Call and accident/reporting processes as necessary – to Speak Up!
- To maintain and use as necessary your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- To ensure you remain sufficiently fit, healthy and competent to discharge the roles required.
- To follow all health, safety and welfare instructions, directions and guidance where applicable.
- To maintain your version of your rule book together with appropriate records for PTS log book entries etc.
- To keep and present your Sentinel card whenever on site.
- To use only valid tools and equipment that you are trained and competent to use.
