Job Summary
- Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
- Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
- Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
- Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignements.
- Identifies discrepancies in results.
- Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
- Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
- Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.

We are looking to recruit an experienced design engineer, with at least 5 years’ experience, to join our Rail Civils team in Bristol. The role would ideally suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic and diverse organisation – career progression opportunities are widely available and fully encouraged. You will work on a variety of exciting projects and enjoy working in a vibrant team, modern environment and in a high quality location.
The successful candidate will be expected to have detailed civil and structural design experience, preferably within the rail sector. Ideally the experience will encompass all stages of the design process form feasibility to construction.
Essentially a technical role the successful candidate would also be expected to provide guidance and mentorship to junior subordinate staff.
Job Duties:
- Preparation of technical outputs to the highest standards in accordance with the AECOM quality management system;
- Provide direction and technical advice to junior project team members, taking a proactive role in developing team members to their full potential, developing team spirit and collaborative behaviors;
- Provide assistance to senior management in the preparation of technical and financial proposals.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree qualification (or equivalent experience) in Civil Engineering or similar;
- Design experience in a range of civil engineering projects;
- Suitable experience of design software.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate would be a Chartered Civil Engineer, or working towards chartership however, we would welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate strong practice experience who might be thinking of applying for chartership at some point in the future and require help and support in doing so.
