The Project

You will be joining a reputable and firmly established, national rail and civil engineering contractor with a company turnover approaching circa £300m (Group TO £500m+). As a specialist civil, building, mechanical and electrical renewals and maintenance business recognised on contracts and frameworks across the country, you will become part of a renowned brand name and team giving you the opportunity to grow in conjunction with this ambitious and forward-thinking business and specialist in-house rail bridge/structures design team. Your role with this company will be to take a senior role in the Design team, working on both permanent and temporary works bridges and railway structures designs.

The Role

With a huge forward order book and long term secured work on projects and frameworks around the country, your role as a Senior Design Engineer will see you take responsibility as Design CRE for the development of technical solutions in addition to programme & budgetary control, SHEQ considerations, and the coaching and mentoring of colleagues on the design of Civil Engineering rail civils and structures/ bridge projects of varying description. You will be responsible for the Design and Assessment of railway bridges, railway structures, tunnels and stations and will encourage and assist the work and development of the Design team, whilst promoting safe working practices in all areas.

Ideal Candidate

If you don’t have experience working on a portfolio of bridge and rail civils including stations, bridges and structural design projects, then this role isn’t for you! Having a proven track record of delivering multiple rail civil engineering and bridge / structures design projects within budget is key for this role. Technical designs and innovative design solutions will be second nature to you as the role will need you to step up as a senior figure within the In-house Design team overseeing a portfolio of complex rail civil design projects (stations, bridges and general civils). This role will include a multitude of different skills but what is just as important is the motivation and incentive to progress and continue your own professional development.

Requirements

As a Senior Design Engineer in your current role, you will naturally have acquired the necessary technical design skills and capabilities to excel (including the ability to and demonstrable experience of producing detailed designs and calculations) in this role but should also be a Chartered or working towards becoming a Chartered (CEng or equivalent) civil engineering, bridge or structures professional, as evidence of the hard work and dedication you have invested in your career so far.

It is important that you have experience in a Senior role within a Rail Design team (from a consultancy or contracting background) or that you can demonstrate technical skills and rail project experience to show that you are ready to take the next step in your career as a Senior Design Engineer in order to be considered.

If not already Chartered, then as a minimum you should hold a relevant qualification such as MEng or BEng in Civil/Structural Engineering and be willing to invest time (with support of the business and Senior Management) to attain chartered status moving forward.

Salary and benefits

• Circa £40,000 to £65,000 salary plus package including car or car allowance, healthcare, pension, life assurance etc.

Please note that Principal level candidates may also be considered for this with a higher salary banding.
