Civil Engineering Technical Director
We are currently searching for a Technical Director to lead the holistic civil engineering capabilities of a consultancys Edinburgh Business Unit, on a full-time, permanent basis. Your main responsibilities will be to lead, grow, and develop the capabilities of the civils team in the Scotland region for a respected, award-winning client.
The successful candidate should ideally have a background in infrastructure and civil engineering, such as highways, transport planning, infrastructure, local authority schemes, or rail. Including this, demonstratable knowledge and track record of delivering the whole civil engineering service, from winning work, through to project delivery and completion would also be desired for the client.
This could be an excellent opportunity for someone in a major consultancy looking for a breath of fresh air to a medium/large consultancy, or alternatively a seasoned Associate/ Associate Director looking to take the next plunge in their career.
The position offers a flexible/hybrid working environment, so candidates from further afield from central Edinburgh are more than welcome to apply and to be considered.
The core responsibilities for this Technical Director position include:
- Using your experience in the industry, work alongside the Regional Director to implement a successful business unit strategy for the continued success of the Scotland branch
- Lead and develop technical teams
- Provide expert client-facing communication and liaison capabilities
- Manage the direction and growth of the Scotland region of the business
- Promote the capabilities of the client/your employer to secure further pipelines of work and business opportunities for growth
- Develop long-term partnerships and ensure excellent customer satisfaction
- Ensure compliance with the businesses financial and performance targets through effective management, development and leadership of people
- Ensure individual teams operate within compliance to industry legislation and standards, quality management systems and procedures
- Coordinate internal and cross-office teams on small, medium and major projects
The successful candidate will ideally be:
- A Chartered Engineer, or registered with a recognised professional institution
- Have demonstratable experience of leading medium and large sized teams
- Have strong outwards-facing, client liaison capabilities
- Have experience winning new work and business development
- Excellent knowledge of leadership and people-management techniques
- Excellent communication techniques
- Strong experience of project management and change management
This is a permanent position within Edinburgh, with a medium/large consultancy, who are looking to appoint a strategic hire of a Technical Director to provide internal leadership and external management capabilities and help grow and direct the Scotland business unit.
