Key accountabilities:

As Track & Civil Engineering Executive for the East West Rail scheme you will:

• Support the production and management of an integrated design and the construction of the track and civils elements of the railway including but not limited to: Track, drainage, structures and earthworks.
• Assist with and contribute to the development of track and civil engineering policies and standards for the Central Section design, assessing and challenging derogations, as required.
• Undertake the review and assurance of technical submissions for the design, construction and commissioning of track and civil assets, ensuring compliance with technical standards and policies, safety and quality principles, and taking into account lifecycle costs and operational impacts.
• Support the delivery of a safe Design at all stages of the EWR Project Lifecycle.
• Provide leadership and coordination on other assigned tasks on behalf of the EWR Head of Engineering (Track and Civils).

TEAM DIMENSIONS

• Part of the Engineering Directorate, reporting to the Head of Engineering (Track & Civils)
• No direct reports
• Given the early stage of the project, it is likely that the nature of the role may evolve as the project progresses. It is also possible that other ad-hoc activities and duties may be required.

Day to day you’ll:

• Assist and support the Head of Engineering (Track & Civils)
• Review and assure track alignment submissions and engineering designs
• Scrutinise cost estimates
• Assist in the production of project specifications
• Review and update engineering policies and standards

You should apply if you have:

As Track & Civil Engineering Executive for the East West Rail scheme, you will have at least 5 years’ experience in a comparable position, in a safety critical environment, preferably in the rail industry. Preferably, you will also have some experience of holding roles in fast paced and complex environments during the setup of a new organisation.

Your skills and experience will include:

• Comprehensive knowledge of transport engineering with specific rail experience, covering specification, design, implementation and maintenance
• The proven ability to review and assure engineering solutions within a complex technical environment
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse complex data (quantitative and qualitative), draw conclusions, and produce solutions and decisions
• Experience of working as part of as part of an Engineering Team proving support to large, technically complex, safety focused and regulated projects, where there are multiple, complex interfaces
• Knowledge of best practice in an engineering and technical environment across the asset lifecycle

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree in a Civil Engineering or equivalent experience and training
• Chartered Engineer (or working towards this).
• Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (or other relevant professional institution)
