Commercial Assistant

Purpose of The Job
To provide support to the commercial managers and senior commercial managers to ensure the successful delivery of the control period 6 (CP6) contract with a focus on actual cost accuracy and subcontract management.
Key Success Measures
- Safety & Ethics- Support the implementation of the Business Conduct Guidelines, Colas Rail Limited Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) strategy, associated actions and resulting initiatives, to deliver continuous improvement in all areas.
- Excellence- Ensure work is carried out with a continuous view to profitability and efficiency and look after our shareholders by guaranteeing that they see value for money and a profitable business. Key Accountabilities
- The formation of accurate and timely labour accruals to support period reporting.
- Validate subcontract timesheets against workplans / signing in records.
- The assessment of periodic subcontract applications for payment with a view to validate against AFC (cost capturing tool) and to issue payless notices if required.
- The approval of summit requisitions and invoices.
- Support the production team with the raising of subcontract requisitions.
- Assist in the formation of subcontract final accounts.
- Provide audit support as and when required.
- Proactively assist with instilling commercial awareness throughout Colas Rail Ltd.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Experience of working within a commercial environment or experienced in a cost clerk or accounts Ledger role
- Experience in cost verification.
- Ability to work under own intuition and think of new ways to drive efficiencies.
- Ability to use range of IT packages including excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
Desirable
- Preferred construction industry experience.
- Preferred educated to degree standard or equivalent professional qualification in related subject.
- Preferred experience of working within a commercial environment.
- Awareness of industry issues
