Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are working with a recognised train operating company based in the East Midlands to recruit for a Commercial Engineering Manager to provide engineering technical support to the Commercial team.

The Opportunity

Working with the UK's most innovative train operating company, Ford & Stanley are seeking to appoint an experienced fleet engineer with operational and commercial expertise to manage the successful delivery of engineering solutions to support a range of diverse customers.

You will have the autonomy to develop new opportunities to exploit the unique business offering of the organisation and strengthen your network within the railway. The role involves a lot of day to day operations management in maintaining engineering relationship with customers and stakeholders working with key contacts within Train Operating Companies, Heavy Maintenance Suppliers and Train Manufacturing businesses.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Working closely with the supply chain and industry experts, develop a deep understanding of the future requirements of the manufacturers, leasing companies and operators of new rolling stock from a technical engineering aspect
• Ensure all engineering, certification, approvals and technical aspects are considered at an early stage of an enquiry or request from a customer to operate train services
• Ensure time and costs for site visits, vehicle inspections, review of maintenance systems, facilities and processes etc. are included in commercial bids for work packages as relevant
• Use industry best practice and underpinning knowledge of testing and commissioning activities, CSM-RA and approvals (NoBo, DeBo, AsBo) to support new trains introduction programmes
• Carry out vehicle inspections, site and depot visits, attend customer meetings, develop relationship with engineers within external organizations to ensure communication and information exchange is timely and of the highest caliber

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will hold demonstrable hands on fleet/depot-based engineering experience within the railway who is very familiar with day-to-day rail operations and can utilise their technical ability in a commercial setting.

You will need to engage at various seniority levels and can therefore showcase technical skill and expertise when promoting the company and its offerings. This is an ideal role for an individual who is keen to progress their railway career in a commercial/operational setting and can meet the challenges and expectations of an organisation who prides themselves in differentiating from the operators in the marketplace.

Essentials

• Minimum HNC/HND qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Demonstrable high standard of literacy and numeracy skills at a level commensurate with the requirement to create and deliver reports and papers to senior managers and directors
• Be able to demonstrate excellent knowledge and significant experience in the management of fleets of traction and rolling stock, depot management, maintenance contracts, new vehicle introduction
• Ability to accept commercial needs and limitations as part of an overall engineering assessment and solution
• Good understanding of daily operating and overall UK rail market.
• Demonstrate commercial and financial acumen.
