Our client currently requires a Commercial Manager for their Bristol Offices on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the Head of Commercial the main purpose of the position to report value, minimise risk and cost, and ensure the client is aware of all key commercial issues to achieve all targets & objectives.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Be in charge of all Commercial functions for respective depot/route/region. This includes and not limited to Cost Management, Budget Management, Project Specific Management (PSM) cost, change control, risk analysis, forecasting, applications, etc.
  • Reviewing Monthly commercial reports and cashflow forecasts prior to presentation to the management team.
  • Reviewing risk and ensuring mitigation strategy is in place including participation in Quantative Risk Assessment and Value Management Workshops.
  • Management of and supporting development of employees promoting a team working environment and proactively instil safety and commercial awareness throughout the Project Team
  • Exercise full cost control including providing and monitoring budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the management team.
  • Establishing & implementing commercial strategies in accordance with company objectives.
  • Establish appropriate compliance controls and audit regimes to achieve adherence to company procedures and standards.
  • Liaising with the management team to ensure corporate governance requirements are met.
  • Responsible for producing Construction estimates, assessing target costs, manage and report PSM costs.
  • Deliver robust commercial solutions in all our bids.
  • Lead and provide commercial support to deliver good P/L results across contracts or bids as applicable.
  • Ensures that safety is a prime consideration in our commercial activities

Skills/Experience required

  • 5-10 years relevant railway and/or construction experience
  • Knowledge of commercial contract management
  • Degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent)
  • MRICS or equivalent
  • Possibly working towards FRICS
  • Strong commercial & financial acumen.
  • Methodical style of working with ability to time-manage, set priorities and work to strict deadlines.
  • Team player and effective communicator.
  • Legal understanding relevant to contracts.
  • Experience of managing commercial solutions on bids.
