My client is an electrical engineering design & build contractor specialising in high voltage power distribution projects. Their scope of services extends across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and design through to installation & commissioning. Working in all sectors and industries where power distribution engineering services are required, including renewable energy and energy storage, utilities, mass transit and private commercial and industrial networks. We are a NERS accredited independent connection provider (ICP) up to 132kV.

Due to continued growth, the client requires an experienced professional to join the company as Commercial Manager.

The Commercial Manager will have lead responsibility below Board level for the commercial and finance functions within the business. Duties will include the following:

  • Contract administration, including submission of applications for payment and management of commercial relationship with clients;
  • Supply chain management, including identification of strategic supply chain relationships and negotiation of contract terms;
  • Leading the change control process, ensuring that variations to baseline scope and budgets are properly assessed and authorised before commitments are made and costs incurred;
  • Periodic profit & loss reporting to the Board on a project and business level, including earned value analysis, KPI reporting and variance analysis where applicable;
  • Leading the commercial risk & opportunities management process at project and business level;
  • Cashflow forecasting and reporting at project and business level;
  • Ownership of business improvement projects relating to commercial and financial management, including improvement to related aspects of the company IMS and adoption of enhanced tools and process.

The successful candidate shall meet the following requirements:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent;
  • Good experience of commercial management in a design & build infrastructure projects environment;
  • Highly competent user of MS Excel including ability to build bespoke commercial/financial modelling tools;
  • Excellent written communication skills;
  • Thorough understanding of contractual terms and clauses common to design & build construction contracts;
  • Experience working with common construction industry standard forms essential. Experience of administering NEC3/4 suite of contracts in particular is desirable;
  • Experience in power transmission & distribution or renewable energy sectors, gained with either a utility framework contractor, ICP or EPC contractor, desirable but not essential.

  • Permanent role;
  • Full-time;
  • Office-based in Stockport with flexible working; and
  • £65k-£75k depending on experience.
