Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Permanent Construction Manager – Pway to join our Rail Delivery team in Cardiff.

Construction Manager – Pway plays an important part in assisting the Project Manager in delivering allocated tasks safely and in accordance with legislation and Amey Procedures to contract specification and programme, while effectively supervising and delivering approved construction tasks to the agreed resource and programme timescales in accordance with the NEC contract terms and conditions.

The standard hours of work are 37.5 per week with midweek and weekend night shifts when required.

You will be responsible for:

  • Promote good safe working practices, ensure full implementation and compliance with safety responsibility statement below.
  • Adhere to the Amey Essentials as applicable Manage on-site changes to ensure that activities are completed as programmed Actively manage and report any on-site changes / variations to planned site activities to the Principal Project Manager.
  • Ensure that toolbox talks, and all relevant task briefs are carried out for all work tasks prior to commencement of work for allocated contracts.
  • Ensure that all allocated tasks are undertaken in accordance with the planned safe method of working.
  • Carry out performance reviews for direct reports, administering poor performance, attendance management and disciplinary procedures as applicable.
  • Completing necessary paperwork.
  • Checking the quality and safety of the work being carried out.
  • Liaising with possession team.

The role is a mixed time-based role between site and the project offices where it is a requirement of the role to attend site on a regular basis (including night-time).

What makes this role unique is

a NEC Contract so the NEC supervisor role isn’t the ‘normal’ site supervisor role people relate to on a general construction / railway project. Please see attached details for specifics about the NEC Supervisor role description.

You will be responsible for the submission of accurate site and project records to enable effective monitoring of programme and cost plans as requested to agreed format as applicable.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Understanding of Railway planning systems (desirable)
  • Understanding of the Railway operating environment (desirable)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence and communicate effectively with site staff and project team
  • Computer literacy – Excel, Word, Power point and Outlook
  • Supervisory experience within Construction or Rail
  • Experience in being involved in a construction project
  • Knowledge of building Bridges and Platforms
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Driving licence

Technical competencies: PTS /IWA Emergency First Aid at work; IOSHH Managing Safely; COSHH; Project Induction Experience of railway construction management for specific discipline; PTS/COSS; Knowledge of risk assessment techniques; Core planner skills 2 (SSOW)
