Here at Amey we support the multi-billion-pound contract to run the Wales and Borders train service and to develop the Cardiff Central Metro. What is the purpose of the role?

  • To lead the OLE engineering activities for allocated projects to facilitate conformance to the contract specification and delivery to programme timescales in Wales and Boarders on the CVL network.
  • What will the role involve?
  • Manage the engineering activity on allocated projects including support for design reviews; communication and consultation with other functions over changes (design, install and test). Including interfaces with other disciplines (including facilitating inter-disciplinary check meetings).
  • Act as Contractors Responsible Engineer as proposed by the nominated CEM.
  • Advise the Project Manager on the engineering resource required to deliver the project plan, and provide engineering review of the construction phase plan, work package plan and associated task briefs proposed for the work.
  • Carry out and record briefings of technical updates to the project team, including sub-contractors, promote best practice and pro-actively identify to resource owners additional training requirements and development opportunities.
  • Dependent on the process for material allocation ensure engineers and construction teams are correctly ordering to meet the project programme and that an up to date material schedule is maintained for the project. Full suite of certificate of conformities and other manufacturer warranties are retained for the final health and safety file.
  • Produce and implement an ongoing inspection and surveillance regime consistent with company standards and project requirements.
  • Provide enough site support to the project team (Project Manager, site supervisors, resource providers and sub-contractors) throughout the works to ensure that critical engineering decisions can be made in a timely manner and that issues arising can be dealt with to ensure compliance with a minimum of re-work.
  • Lead and manage the OLE engineering team.
  • To ensure that critical engineering processes, such as TSI, CDM, CSM, CRT, speed raising (etc.) are appropriately managed and resourced within the OLE engineering team.
  • To ensure that critical project engineering documentation (such as the WPP, TB’s, Permits, etc.) has appropriate resource and attention allocated to it to facilitate quality and timely completion and compliance.
  • To actively participate in, and engage with, external (e.g. ORR, Client) and internal (e.g. Amey and Transpire) audits.
  • Leading and managing all OLE engineering activities for their team
  • Co-operating with the other engineering teams and disciplines
  • Planning and implementing OLE engineering activities
  • Attendance to routine engineering meetings / functions (e.g. IDC’s, IDR’s and other design interfaces) and generally to ensure close liaison with the client assurance and design teams.
  • Monitoring and improving / developing engineering competence of the team - specific to OLE
  • Planning and undertaking briefings on engineering issues - specific to OLE
  • Assisting the RS EM with engineering initiatives
  • Assisting the Competence Manager with engineering competence assessments - specific to OLE
  • Undertaking CRE duties (subject to nomination and Authorisation)
  • Reviewing (as required) all necessary engineering site documentation (programmes, WPP, TBs etc.)
  • Planning and implementing T&I processes - specific to OLE
  • Leading the team on site and in the office (there will be a requirement to work nights, weekends and holiday periods as necessary, by negotiation).
  • The role is based in an office / site office environment. It is a requirement of the role to attend site on a regular basis (including nighttime).

What are we looking for?

  • Relevant HNC/HND/Degree qualifications or equivalent and appropriate experience in relevant role
  • General OLE engineering knowledge and experience
  • OLE construction experience on large projects
  • OLEC 4/5
  • Knowledge and experience of planning and implementing OLE works in a wide range of circumstances and environments
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge and understanding of Network Rail OLE standards
  • Valid UK driving license
  • PTS
