Introduction
Established in 2014, GBR Solutions has grown from strength to strength, providing contingent labour support to a growing client base operating across Network Rail’s routes and regions. GBR Solutions is a dynamic and rapidly expanding business with the capability to manage and supply a complete delivery service in rail civils, track renewals, track maintenance, enhancements, and minor works.
The business has been further developed to provide turnkey contracting solutions to the clients that we have traditionally supported on a labour only basis. This development enables GBR to provide fixed price, lump sum civil engineering and minor works capability across the UK on the rail infrastructure.
Due to our continued success, we are seeking to appoint an experienced Rail Contracts Manager to support our growth and service delivery to the customers we are engaged with.

Purpose of Role
Support the continued growth and service development of the GBR contracting division. Working as part of the wider business and managing our delivery of services to client organisations, safely, on-time and to budget.
Principal Accountabilities
Day to day leadership to enable growth of sales and brand via the business unit, whilst ensuring continuation of the high-level delivery and safety standards GBR Solutions has become synonymous for.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Operational and Commercial management of multiple rail related infrastructure contracts to requisite performance criteria.
- Actively manage and contribute to bid management
- Engage and manage internal resources
- Engage and manage external resource
- Ensure KPIs are met
- Work with the senior management team to develop and implement a strategic business development and delivery plan, to increase sales growth and market share in line with the company and regional targets
- Work with other senior managers and operational staff in the company to ensure the business maximises opportunities and people utilisation.
- Articulate the GBR value proposition to client businesses at Director and Project Level, establishing and maintaining strong relationships throughout the project cycle.
- Being the driving force in building the new business opportunities to the regions which we support
- Develop partnerships and MOUs with selected clients to develop joint business opportunities and expand mutual business
- Create a secure pipeline of future works by both order book and intelligence driven customer strategies
- Ensure that current and prospective customers have positive experiences by managing the relationships and lessons learnt process
- Prepare quotations and proposals for client consideration
- Support the wider bidding activity of the business, by providing technical and/or commercial input to the tender cycles as required
- Prepare operational and project specific delivery plans that ensure the safe and effective delivery of the business services
- Prepare and give regular business reviews to the senior management team
- Understand future customer requirements and share market intelligence to all relevant parties within the business
Required Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications and Training
- Civil engineering construction project delivery experience (at least 5 years) – Essential
- Working within a railway environment (at least 5 years) – Essential
- Management of multiple work sites - Essential
- Civils or multi-disciplinary rail background – Essential
- Strong commercial awareness – Essential
- Effective people managing skills - Essential
- Previous principal contractor and subcontractor roles –
- Established network of previous colleagues/customers offering potential as future customers – Desirable
- Relevant degree or HNC/HND – Desirable
- Personal Track Safety Competence – Essential
- SMSTS - Desirable
