Job Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Regional Manager to join our well-established and experienced rail team in our centrally located Birmingham office. The Birmingham office currently comprises of telecoms, permanent way, civil, structural engineering and project management professionals and forms part of our Rail Central Region.

We are looking for a strategic leader to ensure the future growth of the team through work winning, business development, project delivery as well as the development of recruitment strategies and the retention of our current staff. The post holder will have line management responsibility for all staff within the Birmingham Office and will provide effective resource planning, ensure high quality of work and structured training for all staff in the office. Growth of the department going forward will be a key objective with the department expected to grow to meet the high future business potential in the Central region.

As Department Head for Birmingham you will play a lead role in the delivery of current projects but also have a major influence in growing the companys presence in the central region by successfully supporting business development, bids and tenders. You will have full responsibility for profit and loss on all projects and will lead and inspire the multi-disciplinary team in growth and success.

You will work closely with senior Stakeholders both internally and externally forging strong relationships and using your proven commercial acumen to successfully manage a portfolio of projects to meet the business plan needs. You will report to the Rail Regional Director (Central) and work closely with other offices and department heads across the business driving quality, cost and delivery performance at all times in a structured manner.

In addition to business leadership, you will also take on the position of Project Director for a portfolio of projects, utilising your excellent leadership skills gained through previous experiences at a senior management level, have a proven background in delivering major projects and have a strong commercial acumen. You will have current/ previous experience working in an engineering field, ideally in a rail environment and have the ability to lead an inspire project teams but also clients and suppliers.

Further responsibilities will include the following:

  • An understanding of the market affecting the department and establish and maintain strong working relationships with external Clients in particular Network Rail, West Midlands Combined Authority, other local authorities, metro’s, HS2 and D&B Contractors

  • To monitor and check the quality of work prior to issue to Clients.

  • To ensure that technical standards are briefed to the team and that adequate training is provided to ensure that adequate quality can be provided

  • To act as Supply Manager and ensure that appropriate appointments as Supply Manager are made.

  • To monitor and review with the Rail Regional Director the monthly P&L result for the department.

  • To provide monthly reports on progress against Business Plan objectives to the Rail Regional Director

  • To provide staff in the department with all relevant briefings on matters relating to technical, safety or business related matters

Minimum Requirements

  • An understanding of the market affecting the department and establish and maintain strong working relationships with external Clients

  • To provide monthly reports on progress against Business Plan objectives to the relevant Business Unit Director.

  • To provide staff in the department with all relevant briefings on matters relating to technical, safety or business related matters

Preferred Qualifications

  • For this role, you will be degree educated or equivalent. You will be a Member of a Professional Institution or have a wealth of experience in signalling, permanent way or civil engineering.
