SMTH Team Leader in Birmingham, Midlands, United Kingdom

Redstone Rail is an industry leader with an established reputation for supplying quality engineering, technical and contingent labour personnel to the Rail industry and we are proud to have helped deliver some of the highest profile Rail projects in the country.

We’ve recently been awarded new contracts and are now looking to recruit an experienced SMTH Team Leader for work in the Midlands and Southern England. This is a great opportunity for someone to come in and make their mark on an already successful department.

You will be responsible for the following areas:

  • Undertake installation work as directed by clients
  • Ensure correct tools, plant and equipment are provided for the task
  • Comply with and promote health, quality, safety and environmental instructions
  • Effectively communicate task requirements to team
  • Motivate staff in the team
  • Timely completion of tasks
  • Undertake COSS/SWL duties as required
  • Work towards gaining Signalling Maintenance Tester IRSE Licence (1.4.160 v4)
  • Maintain IRSE logbook
  • Attend team, technical and safety briefs. Undertake site visits
  • Complete required paperwork for planned work
  • Ensure a site diary is kept and site work records are returned to the Construction Manager
  • Carry out installation work to Signalling Installation Handbook (SIH) standards
  • Carry out testing in accordance with the Signalling Maintenance Testing Handbook (SMTH)
  • Take responsibility for staff nominated as being under your control, including sub-contractors
  • Ensure that the information used is current, authorised and contains all essential data

Applicants must have the following skills:

  • Be numerate and literate
  • Basic computer operating skills with knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to drive
  • Good communication skills
  • IRSE licence Signalling Installation Technician (1.4.160 v4)
  • SMTH
  • COSS or SWL
  • Valid PTS with AC/DC
  • Emergency first aid
  • Manual handling
  • Fire safety
  • COSHH Appreciation
  • Small tools
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Knowledge of railway signalling systems and sub-systems
  • Knowledge of appropriate industry standards relating to installation work
  • Knowledge of quality, health, safety and environmental Regulations

The following qualities and experience are desirable:

  • Knowledge of Hazpak documents
  • Basic planning
  • Manual handling assessor
  • Basic Signalling Technology (BST)
  • NVQ level 3
  • G110 Tester
  • Awareness of principles of risk assessment
  • Basic knowledge of health, safety, quality & environmental standards

This is a fast moving environment with alot of interaction with candidates and clients, so you will need to be:

  • Extremely organised
  • An excellent communicator, both over the phone and face to face
  • Target driven
