A new opportunity has arisen for a Buried Services Coordinator based in Kings Cross, you will be responsible for mitigating the risk of damage to and danger from surface and buried services by producing detailed and robust safe systems of work.
Role overview
The Buried Services Co-ordinator will seek to mitigate the risk of damage to and danger from surface and buried services by producing detailed and robust safe systems of work. This will be achieved in part by searching existing buried service records, undertaking on site visual inspections and the use cable and pipe detecting equipment to locate buried services. Account shall be taken of not just ground disturbance but of all activities that could affect buried services, including, but not limited to, the passage of vehicles and plant, vibration and the generation of heat. Liaise with the Network Rail Buried Services NST team who are based at York.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure that ground disturbance work is planned in accordance with Alstom, Network Rail and industry standards
- Produce Permits to Dig in accordance with NR/L2/AMG/1030
- Liaison with the Network Rail NST team
- To liaise closely with the Projects Engineer & Construction Manager
- To liaise closely with the Contracts Responsible Engineer (CRE)
- Liaise with the design department throughout the project as required
- Review buried service records and detail findings
- Visually inspect sites of work to identify and subsequently record signs of buried services
- Use of Cable Avoidance Tool to identify the presence of buried services
- Evaluate activities and proposed methods of work to assess the risk to buried services
- Advise on methods to protect buried services in cases where work in proximity to them is unavoidable
- Review all used Permits to Dig for completeness and overall suitability
- Maintain Permit to Dig records
- Attend any Project review meetings/health and safety meetings
- Give refresher briefings / Toolbox Talks on requirements associated with ground disturbance work
Essential requirements
- C&G Safe Location and Avoidance of Underground Services (6038)
- 5 x GCSEs at grade 9-5 (A*-C+) including English, Maths and either a Science, Technology or Engineering related subject or equivalent qualifications
- Experience of working to Network Rail H&S standards
- Knowledge of completing the NR/L2/MTC/0006 NWR Hazard Notification form
- Experience of undertaking buried services duties, such as acquiring permits to dig, CAT Scanning and a good understanding of SSOW
- Good Knowledge off NWR procedure on buried services
- A positive attitude with high level of commitment to challenges
- Excellent IT skills with knowledge of programming software
- Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
- Excellent organisational skills
- Understanding of planning process
- Knowledge of risk assessment process
Desirable requirements
- HNC/Degree in Civil Engineering
- Experience of using Radar mapping and Ground Penetrating tools
