Providing high quality rail consultancy services to clients across a range of requirements. Often working alone or within a client team, you may also be required to work within a functional group, or independently, or on large assignments and on key projects. You will act as a source of sound knowledge and capability in work delivery and also assist the generation of new business for the Rail Consulting Practice.

Responsibilities
- To provide high quality advice and deliverables to UK and international clients, both as an individual or through your contribution within a team, leading some elements, and through the effective and efficient coordination of wider Rail Consulting Practice resources. This may include supporting strategic level advice to high-value projects and assignments at both planning and delivery phase.
- To lead and/or be part of a team delivering complex projects and assignments as required. To contribute to existing and new work generated by other consultants when practical and required by the business.
- To work within a collaborative team, that is customer-centric having shared learning and continuous improvement at its heart.
- To ensure an energetic approach is taken to create business continually seeking fresh opportunities to solve problems by exploiting the advantage of your contacts and knowledge and using technology to improve consistency and quality of delivery and drive down cost.
- To assist preparing, selling and delivering compelling propositions to rail companies and other clients across the world.
- To ensure assignments are undertaken in accordance with corporate HSQE Management Systems and associated corporate management systems and documentation.
Example Work Activities
- Working on a variety of technical studies which may involve new rolling stock (such as HS2) or refurbishments, maintenance and servicing considerations for existing services.
- Supporting decision making regarding new rolling stock procurement and/or fleet deployment decisions, such as for new considerations and/or during rail operator concession bidding (previously Franchise bidding), or support to governing bodies such as the DfT and, in the future, GBR.
- Working on rolling stock considerations requiring review/support in many diverse aspects. This may include contractual/commercial support of ongoing technical projects such as fleet fitment programmes, technical specification and requirement management of rolling stock, depots and infrastructure projects
- Supporting emerging requirements of modern railways, in areas such as carbon reduction strategies, alternative propulsion projects (eg, battery/hydrogen), or digital projects such as ETCS implementation
We’d love to hear from you if you:Typically, are degree qualified and a Chartered Engineer (or are actively working towards Chartered status) or have similar status in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Have a good understanding of main line, metro or light rail rolling stock, rolling stock whole life care, or the railway system and/or regulation, or having identifiable and transferable skills that match the demands of the job description.
- Have drive, flexibility and the ability to adapt to clients demands and requirements
- Have good communication and presentational skills, good I.T. skills and the ability to write clear and concise text.
