Overview of project

Crossrail is the new high frequency, high capacity railway for London and the South East. When the service opens as the Elizabeth Line, trains will travel from Reading and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east via new tunnels under central London. This remarkable railway will take 72,000 passengers where they need to be, each and every hour.

Role scope

To lead and manage delivery of the daily train plan within the Route Control Centre through collaborative relationships with train operators and other Control Centre Managers to minimise the impact of service disruption whilst continuing to meet statutory, business and route performance requirements.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead the real time delivery of services on the network and communicate decisive action during times of disruption to restore services to normal as soon as it is safe and practicable to do so.
• Lead, manage and direct Traffic Managers to deliver safe, reliable and efficient services to the network.
• Lead, manage and direct Incident Response Managers to incidents and other events to ensure the safety and operational integrity of the network.
• Oversee the application of standards, rules and working procedures pertaining to the safe movement of trains and take appropriate corrective action to mitigate risk and exposure to loss.
• Manage the application of agreed service contingencies and business resilience plans to mitigate the overall performance of the network.
• Manage the application of risk control measures for safety critical work to ensure compliance with the safety management system.
• Manage the application of risk control measures for ensuring adequate systems, people and resources are sufficient to deliver the minimum operating requirement.
• Manage the application of performance and delay attribution to ensure compliance with track access agreements.
• Responsible for leading the overall application of contingencies affecting the safe performance of the infrastructure with potential to import / export financial risk across the Crossrail network.

Knowledge

Essential

• Deep Knowledge of Network Rail and Train Operating Companies within the route and the key aspects of their business.
• Knowledge of Train Operator performance regime and targets.
• Geographical knowledge of applicable route.

Desirable

• Level 1 - Railway Rules & Regulations

Experience

• Leading within a control, logistics or operational environment.
• Managing teams of people and resources to deliver business objectives.
• Planning and implementing contingency arrangements in real time.
• Managing and interpreting information in real time.
• Managing and communicating crucial action in real time.
