About the role
BWB Consulting has an exciting opportunity for Service Manager (Associate Director) to be based in either our Birmingham, London or Manchester office.
We are looking to appoint a Service Manager (Associate Director) on a permanent basis, who is experienced in leading Rail Civils designs and managing Rail Civils design teams within the Rail industry. This role is an important ‘Associate Director’ level appointment, and the Service Manager will reporting directly to the Service Director and assist and support them in the full operational, Client and financial management of the Rail Civils service line.
We are looking for an ambitious and experienced individual who is looking for an opportunity to step up into a role where they can make their mark in our Rail Civils business.
You will have overall responsibility for technical delivery of schemes and play an active part in the business development and financial performance of our growing civils team.
About the team
The Rail team provides a comprehensive design and advisory service focused on meeting the engineering challenges involved in servicing the infrastructure requirements of renewal, enhancement and turnkey projects. We work across all types of railway systems and our Clients range from local developers through to international contractors working for public sector bodies. In particular, the Rail Civils Team is looking to build, maintain and strengthen our relationships with UK Rail Civils Contractors.

About you
The ideal candidate will have skills and experience in the following areas:
- Strong IT skills and be fully conversant with our industry standard design software packages such as Tedds and STAAD.
- Ability to work independently, and manage others, to produce designs for approval and construction.
- Strong experience of delivering design projects for UK Rail Civils Contractor Clients, preferably with strong connections with such Contractors.
- A good all rounder, with strong technical, people management, commercial and business development experience.
- Knowledge and experience of current health and safety legislation including CDM Regulations.
- Ability in using design standards and technical guidance to produce designs with respect to rail projects.
- Knowledge and experience working with Eurocodes and Network Rail standards.
- Appreciation of the other rail disciplines and the wider aspects of design and construction.
- Experience in the use of Microsoft software packages including Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Bridge design experience is preferable.
- Previous Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) experience.
- Experience managing projects and design teams using engineering judgement.
- Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and how it is applied.
- Incorporated or chartered status with a relevant engineering institution (e.g. ICE).
Whilst academic qualifications appropriate to the role are important, attributes such as problem solving, leadership, communication, personal organisation and team working will help candidates stand out. Above all we seek demonstrable enthusiasm, ambition and a willingness to learn.
