We are currently dealing with a major Engineering Contractor who is actively looking an expanding their team near Glasgow by recruiting an Assistant Design Manager Rail to work on a range of Rail Civils and Electrification projects. Within the position you will assist other Rail Design Managers & the Senior Design Manager in bidding for & subsequently delivering Design projects to programme, quality & budget through the use & development of appropriate systems & processes.  Typical duties for the Assistant Design Manager can include, but not limited to:

• Ensure appropriate commercial agreements are in place for all design packages prior to works starting & are reviewed & approved by the Senior Design Manager/Design Director.
• Input to resourcing systems & estimates to ensure the Design function can maintain adequate design capability.
• Assist the Design Management Team in maintaining design management systems to show project status & health.
• Assist with managing project change, building cost & programme impacts whilst maintaining an appropriate register, whilst drafting appropriate early warning notices (EWNs) where required for review with the Design Management Team.
• Review & Countersign timesheets for the Design practice for all time bookings to projects which call under the assistant design managers responsibilities to ensure correct coding & accuracy of information.
• Drive design processes and process improvements alongside appropriate heads of design

 
Job Requirements

• Experienced Design/Project Manager within an engineering discipline, managing multidisciplinary design projects ideally rail, but candidates with a background in Design Coordination from another sector will be considered
• Ideally design engineering background or knowledge.
• Strong IT skills & advanced computer software literacy, able to build & maintain systems to track project programmes, resources & costs.
