Design Coordinator
Location: North Wales and on the North West and Central Rail Network.

MPH is looking to recruit a Design Coordinator who is proactive, positive and self – motivated individual looking to develop whilst working as part of our rail team delivering Civils and Building services for our rail clients on our long-term frameworks in North Wales and on the North West and Central Rail Network.
The role involves working as part of the rail team carrying out the following key responsibilities:
- Contribute within a broader team during the remit, estimating and delivery stage on minor
- works projects.
- Scope and prepare remits.
- Ability to propose design solutions in conjunction with design team.
- Manage the design process with relative parties, through design meetings and individual consultations. Including remit reviews and Inter Disciplinary Checks.
- Manage MPH’s approach to Engineering Management for design with Network Rail
- including:
- Nomination and appointment of Contractors Engineering Manager
- Nomination and appointment of Contractors Responsible Engineer
- Nomination and appointment of Contractors Responsible Engineer for Designers.
- Understand and manage the process for Engineering Works and relevant design approvals. For example, Form’s A, B and C.
- Have an understanding of Network Rail Standards.
- Ability to assess, comment and provide assurance on designs provided.
- Negotiate scope of works, fees and appointments for design team, consultants and supply
- chain members as required for minor works and projects, including temporary works.
- Produce design programmes for various stages.
- Ensure meeting agendas are produced, minutes taken and distributed and follow up actions
- are driven to full conclusions.
- Develop Risk Register documents and identify means of reducing risks.
- Develop and manage information release schedule.
- Develop Contractors Proposals documents.
- Contribute to the estimating process.
- Work collaboratively with the delivery team and Network Rail Project Engineers.
- Develop procurement schedule collaboratively with the delivery team.
- Assist with identifying opportunities to amend the design to achieve cost savings and
- reduction in programme.
- Liaison with the Client and their Representatives
- Working together with the MPH rail team
The candidate would hold the following key attributes:
- Hold or on route to obtaining relevant qualifications (Degree and Professional Qualification)
- Experienced in similar role
- Ability to build long term relationships with various design team and supply chain members.
- Understanding of Network Rail procedures and requirements.
- Solid understanding of the construction process for both buildings and civils structures.
- Basic skills in design software.
- Innovative and forward-thinking person with positive approach to problem prevention and solving.
- Highly motivated
- Willingness to learn and develop
- Confident IT skills;
- Good communications skills, both written and verbally
- Good team player with ability to communicate to all
- Conscientious and attentive attitude to work at all times
- A full UK Driving Licence
