£400 /Day ( Negotibale dependant on experience )
The post holder would be responsible for the production and development of the Contract Design deliverables (GRIP 3, GRIP 4 & GRIP 5) together with all other associated documentation and supporting design drawings which may also include the production of Work Package Plans (WPPs) and task briefs for surveys as required.
The post holder would co-ordinate multi-disciplinary designs associated with their works, including those produced by our external approved suppliers and or other third parties as appropriate. The post holder will be required to present their designs at Interdisciplinary Design meetings.
The post holder will be required to carry out Single Discipline Checks of other designers designs and provide comments to comply with the SDC process.
Areas Of Responsibility / Tasks:
* To produce fully compliant GRIP 3, GRIP 4 and GRIP 5 designs to meet the requirements of the contract
* Provide support to the design team that covers cross discipline work streams to provide an integrated solution for the customer
* Ensure that any sub-contracted design work is awarded and managed in a professional, cost effective manner.
* Management of interdisciplinary designs i.e Civils, SCADA, Telecoms etc.
* Assist with the development of Tender estimates and documentation for new opportunities
* Ensure productive and cost effective use of technical resources to achieve company targets, margins and profit
* Ensure that all designs are in accordance with the customers' approval processes
* Understand primary interfaces, design drivers and stakeholders on projects that will influence the technical design
* To positively influence design and construction safety performance and aims for zero accidents
* To support the project commercial process with the Commercial Manager and ensure all design change requests are processed on time
* To review project based risk register monitoring and reporting on changes in commercial risk and ensure that appropriate actions are taken to eliminate or mitigate the risks
* To maintain effective communications with all project participants to ensure contract delivery
* Take an active role in the local coaching of junior /less experienced staff to ensure the developmental needs of both the individual and the business are met
* Undertake lessons learnt exercises to maintain value
* Most economical design methodology
Core Requirements:
* Chartered Engineer Status (or working towards)
* Ideally Degree qualified (HNC qualified may be considered)
* Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience of Network Rail DC electrification schemes, particularly distribution assets
* In depth experience of designing DC traction / distribution substations from first principles
* Experience of undertaking 11-33kV AC and 650/750V DC protection calculations, producing protection setting reports and producing relay configuration files from first principles
* In depth knowledge of the various forms of supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA) on the Network Rail infrastructure
* Proficient in discipline specific Network Rail company standards, Railway Group standards, British & European standards
* Energetic and hardworking individual with an ability to motivate others
* Proven ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
* Willingness to travel across the UK and occasionally to abroad for project meetings and FAT attendance
