An exciting opportunity for a rail, E&P Principal Design Engineer to join an established and busy in-house design team specialising in E&P Engineering projects in the rail sector has opened up in York.
Having secured a number of long-term Frameworks with key clients the company are further expanding their in-house Civil & Structural Design team.
To be suitable for the role you must have:
- previous experience as a Principal Design Engineer in an electrical project environment.
- Rail Sector experience
- Minimum BEng / BSc Degree level of education.
- Sentinel Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence in both AC and DC.
- Experience ideally running a design team or acting as a team leader/lead engineer.
- Full working knowledge of relevant British standards/ BS7671 / 18TH Edition wiring regulations/Railway Group standards/Network Rail standards
While not essential it would be preferable if you have;
- An understanding of LUL standards.
- Chartered Member of a relevant Professional Body
- Full working knowledge of Microstation/ProjectWise/Hevacomp/Amtech/DIALux and all relevant software packages.
Role Information;
Responsible for the technical aspects of engineering projects in addition to programming, resource allocation, budgetary control, managing customer satisfaction, reviews, coaching and recruitment.
As Principal Design Engineer for the E&P discipline and associated works, your day to day role will include:
- Ability to undertake Design RDE/CRE duties on Network Rail schemes.
- Proven and effective leader, who manages and organises the E&P design team on the business/project requirements whether this be for site surveys, detailed design enabling effective design solutions, delivery or implementation.
- Appreciation of other disciplines influencing E&P design this being signalling, telecoms, Pway OLE, Civils.
- Good interaction and engagement with Planners, Estimators, Procurement in order to provide the most effective solution in the most effective way maintaining technical requirements throughout the whole design process. -Ensure technical compliance is maintained at all times within the works undertaken, ensuring all project elements are delivered safely, on time and to budget.
- Check and mentor engineering solutions within your own skill set. -Support the bid team/ Head of Department in the preparation of technical, cost and programme information to support project/bids.
- Identify process improvements within the engineering function and report these to the Head of Department for review/implementation. -Manage and chair formal engineering reviews internally/externally for the E&P team, participate in IDR and IDC meetings when requested.
- A broad knowledge of the issues surrounding sustainability.
- Promotion of safe working practices in all areas. -Technical Lead for E&P, producing quarterly standard briefs.
