Fibre Network Design Engineer in London, London, United Kingdom
As Master Supply Partner, PSR Solutions are proud to be working in partnership with the UK arm of this leading international and multidisciplinary infrastructure construction company, specialising in the development and delivery of key infrastructure projects across the globe such as railway construction and systems, roads, tunnelling and fibre optic networks.
Having worked on a number of the UK's most prestigious Major Projects and Alliance Partnerships, they are currently focusing on the funding, design and construction of fibre networks in the UK, and are growing 3 UK regional hubs.
They currently have an immediate requirement based either within their London Head Office team or Norfolk regional hub for a Network Planner to support the tendering and delivery of new fibre optic networks.
OVERVIEW:
To work as part of the growing Fibre Design team, taking the lead and ownership of the fibre design for allocated build clusters, working equally effectively individually or as part of a team and comfortable communicating with internal and external teams at all levels. You will work to work to strict deadlines and be able to adapt to change requests.
Previous experience with designing fibre networks and knowledge of GIS, Openreach PIA and splicing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities will be to create and assess HLDs and LLDs. This includes but is not limited to; analysing data from survey reports to identify closure and CBT locations, cable routes and deployment methods, siting cabs, as well as creating link loss budgets and splicing schedules. You may also be called upon to use your skills in assessing future Business opportunities.
Key responsibilities:
- Creating HLDs and LLDs - identifying optimal route, fibre deployment method, best place to drop furniture to optimise connections, use survey data to support design, identify d-poles/issue poles, able to identify any possible future problems with the plan.
- Attending plan virtual walkthroughs of a design plan with PMs and surveyors, raising issues and able to take onboard any feedback and changes required.
- Calculating Link Loss Calculations
- Creating Splice packs and LLD documents (Excel)
- Using the PIA portal to get pole, chamber and duct data
- On GIS, use functions such as 'select by location', create buffers and identify possible DLP areas when analysing UPRN data, create KMZs.
- Grade UPRNs using the specification provided
- Identifying backhaul solutions and cabinet locations
For this position, the ideal candidate should have the following skills, experience and knowledge:
- Proficient user of excel - able to do vlookups
- Experience of using a GIS platform (e.g. ESRI, QGIS)
- Knowledge of GIS, Openreach PIA and splicing
- Organised and able to adapt quickly to changes
- Communication skills to be able to liaise with different teams, internally and externally
- Can handle and maintain large datasets
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Attention to detail
- Adaptable to change with a can do attitude
