Head of Signalling Design in United Kingdom

Signalling systems keep millions of people safe. Signalling covers a wide range of equipment and technology, from mechanical and electrical to computer-based systems, and safety and performance enhancement schemes. These systems make sure trains are safely spaced and switch from one track to another. They alert signallers to train movements, warn drivers and can stop trains automatically. Every day, we design, check, test, clean and fix thousands of signals throughout the country.
OSL has rapidly established themselves as one of the leading independent signalling design and testing companies. We can design, install, test and commission to requirements. Our project teams are experienced in a wide range of railway disciplines, and have the skills and knowledge to anticipate the needs of a smart railway.
We are now looking to recruit a Head of Signalling Design to co-ordinate the signalling design delivery across our various OSL offices.
The role is varied and busy, we are flexible on location however you must be able to travel to meet your teams across the UK.
Responsibilites:
  • Ensure each design team is managed efficiently.
  • Provide the Design Manager role as required.
  • Provide input to Corporate Strategy & Policy and IMS development.
  • Effective management of the Design Office budgets.
  • Liaison with Head of Signalling, PM’s and Clients on all technical and commercial issues.
  • Tender support for the design business and promote the OSL design function
  • Ensure that individual CREs and Design Engineers implement a robust Project control system for each project in accordance with Company IMS procedures.
  • Support the IRSE Licensing Scheme log book and portfolio of evidence to ensure IRSE Licenses are maintained across the team.
  • Undertake progress meetings and staff briefings.
  • Ensure that all Design Office resources comply with Company procedures relating to their own personal competence, design processes and general companywide processes.
  • Work and liaise with other teams and staff across projects.
  • Undertake yearly performance reviews
  • Act as the CRE if required
You will have:
  • Evidence of at least 8 years personal experience and training in the railway signalling or a sufficient a proven track record of production and delivery of Design outputs.
  • Experience in leading teams and the management of staff. Including the undertaking of performance reviews and conflict resolution.
  • In depth understanding of Industry (Railway Group) Standards and Network Rail Company Signalling Design Standards.
  • Appreciation of Network Rail Signalling Standards Principles, Technical Instructions and Design Technical Guidance.
  • Robust understanding of CDM regs.
  • Appreciation of Network Rail Project Life Cycle and Delivery processes. (GRIP).
