Our Transportation team currently have a vacancy in our Swindon office for an Overhead Line Engineer with experience working on Network Rail’s infrastructure and other railway /metro environments.
Job profile
Working as part of a well-established OLE team, you will be responsible for designing and delivering safe, economical and quality projects for a variety of clients to meet their objectives and requirements.
The Overhead Design Engineer will report to the Team Leader/Principal Engineers and work together with all relevant disciplines to achieve the best system design approach for each project.

The Overhead Design Engineer will report to the Team Leader/Principal Engineers and work together with all relevant disciplines to achieve the best system design approach for each project.
Job Responsibilities:
- Carry out site surveys, identify risks and hazards and provide appropriate reporting.
- Carry out design and assessment work for OLE elements of projects under CRE’s supervision and production of technical designs for OLE including Layout Plans, Cross Sections, Allocations, Isolation Diagrams updates, bonding designs, and supporting reports and calculations.
- Keep up to date with current standards relevant to OLE.
- Communicate effectively with other design/construction disciplines.
- Ensuring designs are delivered in line with relevant, current design standards, are constructable, and apply Safe by Design principles.
Commercial
- Maintain cost-effective standards for OLE designs.
- To understand and deliver to the project budget.
- Ensure project change is identified, fully implemented and recorded.
- Manage and record time and provide time estimates for tasks.
- Contribute to the development of continuous improvement plans.
Professional
- Ensure a commitment to continuing CPD for self.
- Display creativity and problem-solving ability in approach to assignments, projects and tasks.
- Show capacity to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in OLE design ranges i.e. UKMS, Series-1, Series-2, Mk3B, GEFF, Mk1, SICAT, SNCF, UK1 etc.
- Familiar with Isolation diagrams and their update process.
- Understanding of Earthing & Bonding required for electrification.
- Proficient in Bentley MicroStation CAD software
- Excellent communications and organization Skills.
- Candidates will be able to provide experience of working in a 3D common data environment working to BIM procedures and practices.
- Ability to develop OLE designs through the different stages of the project life cycle.
- Knowledge of the design interfaces with other rail disciplines and how they may impact OLE designs.
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Member of a professional institution.
- Working towards Professional Registration.
- Understanding of CSM-RA & Health and Safety including CDM
