Randstad is proud to partner with Queensland Rail (QR) on a major international recruitment drive to source electrical professionals from around the globe. As part of this major recruitment drive we are looking to identify a Principal Engineer in Power Systems Design for their South East Queensland Network division (SEQ).
QR operates passenger and freight rail services across Queensland, and is committed to providing a customer-focused, safe and world-class rail service. It is also responsible for the maintenance of a 6600 kilometre rail network and the effective delivery of projects to improve the efficiency and increase the capacity of its rail assets.
QR has a current project pipeline of over A$10 billion and this is expected to grow exponentially in the build up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. As a result of this significant investment, the need to secure in-house electrical resources is paramount to support the South East Queensland Network division (SEQ).
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Provide expert electrical engineering services to complete projects against specified Key Performance Indicators (KPI), taking into account scope, quality and safety considerations and allocated budgets and timeframe to deliver valuable commercial outcomes.
- Ensure work by staff and contractors is carried out in accordance with best engineering practice and within time and cost constraints.
- Carry out engineering studies and investigations related to Power Systems deficiencies, anomalies, type testing, interfaces, protection and incidents as required.
- Certify, as a professional engineer, electrical engineering works and monitor and manage compliance of the team with the requirements of professional practice and/or the Quality Management System to provide consistent output of electrical engineering services, ensure compliance with safety, operational and environmental legislation, regulations and practices.
- Manage power systems primary and secondary systems equipment configurations to ensure traceability and auditability.
- Provide expert advice for power systems technology development, design and innovation including coordination with other engineering disciplines and railway operations.
To be successful in this role:
- Extensive knowledge of electrical requirements of 25 kV AC electrical railway systems with particular focus on control, protection and power SCADA systems
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- A relevant engineering degree
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD or similar design software
