Our client, a design and engineering consultancy, now have an opening in ther team for a Principal OLE Design CRE/Technical Lead. Ideally, the successful candidate will be based in Derby with the rest of the team but our client will also consider someone who'd prefer to be based in London or even Manchester.

The main purpose of the role is to provide technical leadership on more than one project whilst performing the role of CRE. It will be your job to mentor and develop the team throughout the project lifecycle.

As well as a highly competitive basic salary, car/travel allowance will also be provided as part of the package along with private medical care.

Principal responsibilities:

• Leadership, checking and approval of OLE allocation designs at feasibility, scheme and detailed design stages.
• Checking of deliverables including layout plans, cross sections, switching diagrams, bridge designs and bonding plans.
• Undertake checking of accurate, clear, high quality technical reports and specification.
• Operate under minimal supervision for the majority of the work ensuring the production of deliverables to agreed deadlines and within budget.
• Delivery of target project outcomes for technical quality, cost, fee, program and repeat business
• Attendance at design team meetings
• Undertaking site surveys / site visits where required
• Delivery of robust forecasts for design delivery and tender estimates
• Day to day liaison internally with project manager and wider multi-disciplinary delivery team

Key skills/experience required:

• Previous experience working as a CRE
• Competent working in multi-discipline programs of work covering all railway disciplines with a specific focus on Electrification, Plant, Track, Stations, Depots, and general infrastructure interfaces.
• 10+ years' experience as an OLE Engineer in the Rail industry
• Familiarity working in a program-managed environment.
• Excellent contract and commercial awareness
• Proficient user of industry standard tools such as AutoCAD and/or Microstation Microsoft Office packages
• Chartered in their specialist area e.g. IMechE / IET or similar
