Company Information:

Tier 1 civil engineering contractor are seeking a senior design professional in there Rail & Infrastructure team.
Due to the on-going volume of work which they are tendering for there is now a need for a permanent design input to the tender team to support each bid.

To be suitable for the position you must have:

• Experience in scoping design work and writing briefs to Designers
• Extensive experience of construction projects in a rail environment
• Detailed experience of managing design consultants in delivering design for a main contractor
• Strong commercial awareness with clear understanding of the commercial impacts of any design scope decisions
• Good working knowledge of different forms of construction contract with a clear understanding of how each would affect the way that Designers are engaged
• Working knowledge and experience of managing design programmes and working with Designers to produce a design programme that aligns with construction requirements.
• Strong analytical approach to the assessment of Designer fee proposals with keen eye for detail and understanding around a Designer's complete offer
• Individual needs to be able to produce impartial clear assessments of each fee proposal
• Working knowledge of risk associated with design and with the Designer's fee proposals with evaluation and understanding of that risk needing to be fed into the tender team

Although not essential it would also be advantageous if you have;

• A Degree in Civil Engineering or similar relevant qualification.

Role Information;

Working on various rail and infrastructure major projects this role would ideally be suited to an experienced Senior Design Manager who does not want to run individual or multiple large schemes but wants a predominantly office / home based role which involves a great deal of reading and production of detailed scoping documents and management of Designers through a tender phase of a project. As said, the role is essentially office / home based with the candidate expected to travel to sites for initial visits only and to be working out of Farringdon Office when it is back up and running for at least part of the week.
