Senior Design Manager

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Based at: Rench Farm, Drumclog, Lanarkshire. ML10 6QJ

Summary:

A Senior Design Manager is required to join an infrastructure services Main Contractor in the railway. The position will be office based in Rench Farm, Lanarkshire with a requirement to travel to sites throughout Scotland. You will work closely with project and commercial staff on various projects and be ambitious to progress in your role to become a valuable member of the business.

Experience working within Civil Engineering will be essential for this role. As one of the UK’s leading providers of solutions for the Rail Infrastructure, rail experience is essential. We are looking for a self-starter, who is a quick learner and exhibits the following behaviours – collaborative, accountable and challenging.

This is an existing role which is key to the design/development and coordination of all our Geotechnical projects within our portfolio.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Manage the activities of all survey works (topographical/drainage/SI-GI), ensuring relative information is collated and issued to relevant Designer
• Line management of staff and HR/payroll related issues
• Co-ordination and liaison with Designer framework co-ordinators
• Facilitate design reviews and progress meetings
• Review and check submissions (F001-003 process)
• Co-ordinate and facilitate required surveys by planning rail access, preparation of WPP/TBS and Risk Assessments as required
• Ability to undertake small scale in-house temporary designs
• Raise and close out relevant Technical Queries (TQs) with both Designers/Client
• Identify any scope change in design/surveys and highlight this to the Project management, commercial & estimating teams as appropriate
• Ensure key deliverables are met with respect to programme, budgets and efficiency targets
• Assist team members CEM/QS/PM as required with engineering input
• Collate and submit National Performance Metrics (NPM)
• Ensure designs meet Client remit/requirements prior to approval
• Participate and engage in company appraisal/performance review processes and constantly work to improve your individual, your team and wider group’s performance

Minimum Requirements:

For the role of Senior Design Manager, you should have:

• 5+ Years Civil Engineering experience within railway environment (Essential)
• Previous Design Management experience within collaborative contract (Essential)
• Previous CRE (Contractors Responsible Engineer) experience (Desirable)
• Familiar with railway standards (Essential)
• Must be willing to travel throughout Scotland, occasionally UK
• Must be IT literate
• Have good interpersonal skills
• Good attention to detail and highly organised
• Full UK Driving Licence

Qualifications:

• BEng or BSc Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (Essential)
• Membership of ICE (Desirable)

Scale and territory indicators:

You will be involved in projects and programmes which can be considered major within the rail transport infrastructure.

Deputy:

In your absence, the Design Manager will deputise.
