We are working with a global engineering business that now has an exciting opening in their team for a Senior E&P Design Engineer to join their team in the South West region. The purpose of the role is to assist the CRE with the management of design on projects. You will also be required to check designs.

This will be an initial 6-month contract (inside IR35) with a view to a further extension.

You will be expected to attend the office 1/2 days per week and there will times where you'll need to be on site for survey works.

Principal responsibilities:

• Mentor junior members of the team
• Planning surveys and leading site survey teams
• Undertake design work for electrical and lighting installations
• Undertaking CDM/risk analyses
• Checking designs to ensure they meet the correct standards
• Keep up to date with current Network Rail, British and European Standards
• Managing the Electrical Power design for small projects
• Effective communication with other disciplines and parts of the business
• Undertaking low complexity design cost estimates
• Stand in for the CRE as and when required

Key skills/experience required:

• 7+ years’ experience working in a similar role
• Sound experience with signalling power, points heating, HV, lighting and building services
• An ability to identify innovative solutions to problems
• Strong leadership skills
• Some experience with leading teams during site surveys
• Self-motivated and pro-active in terms of checking and supervising design production
• Level 3/4 HNC or foundation degree in electrical / power (or related) engineering
• Member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) and ideally having or working towards Incorporated status
• 18th Edition of BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations
• Good understanding of systems engineering including the Verification & Validation and RAMS processes
• Good understanding of CDM and CSM processes with good skills for managing hazards and risks
• Need to have great commercial awareness
