Job Purpose

To lead and direct design delivery to ensure compliance with legislation, Railway Group and to client specifications and standards. To assist the Principal Design Engineer in the development of other staff members. To assist the Principal Design Engineer with the production of cost estimates and offers.

Key Accountabilities

• Ensure a cost effective, high quality and safe approach to design works including feasibility, option selection, detailed design and entry into service.
• Key interface with clients on design issues.
• Ensure that work carried out is in accordance with Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards and Network Rail project control procedures.
• Monitor whether the design and construction elements meet the requirements of legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations.
• Ensure works are carried out within budget and to agreed timescales.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• Significant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in design and construction projects across multi discipline areas.
• Experience of Low Voltage Electrical Design in a Rail Environment
• BS 7671 Qualifications
• Engineering degree (or other qualifications with work place experience)
• Membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Experience of major contracting.
• Knowledge of safety management and quality assurance

Desirable

• Chartered status or equivalent in the particular discipline
• Appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works
