We are currently dealing with a global Engineering Consultancy who are looking at expanding there Glasgow office by recruiting a Senior or a Principal Track Design Engineer to work on a wide variety of rail design projects from track renewals and electrification schemes, through to new heavy haul, metro and HS2, working both in the UK and international markets.

As the Senior or Principal Engineer, you will work within the Track Deign Team reporting to reporting to the Track Team Leader, in which youll be required to act as CRE / track discipline lead, integrating with colleagues around the UK. This isnt purely a technical role as you will also train and develop the next generation of Engineers, providing technical guidance and general managerial duties delivering projects.


Within the job, your duties may include, but not limited to:

• Production and/or checking of detailed track designs, calculations and reports within an implementation project comprising new track layouts, renewals, or modifications resulting from other Railway asset renewals
• Input to preliminary and detailed track layouts; technical studies and reports; generation and evaluation of technical design options; design calculations and analysis; specialised report writing and interfacing with other disciplines across a range of projects
• Delegating tasks to our junior engineers, checking and providing training in track design
• Acting as Track Contractors Responsible Engineer, Checker or Project Engineer
• Providing support in the production of proposals

Job Requirements

• Preferably a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) - equivalent experience/working towards this will also be considered
• Experienced user of design software such as Power Railtrack, BRT, MX, Clearroute or similar
• Experience, preferably in the UK, in leading, producing and checking track designs and calculations at feasibility, outline and detail design stages
• Underpinning knowledge of track engineering design principles, standards, components, and fabrication methods.
• Significant experience working within a rail environment and good working knowledge of Network Rail standards

As mentioned, this role is based in Glasgow so could suit candidates in the Mid Scotland region like Edinburgh. When the office reopens flexible working will continue with a split week adopted between home and office.
