Signalling Design Engineering Manager in Derby, Derbyshire, United Kingdom

We have an exciting opportunity as a Signalling Design Engineering Manager on a permanent basis in Derby. We are looking for a driven Signalling Design Engineering Manager who is looking for a new and exciting challenge, developing a large team to complete various re-signalling projects throughout CP6 and supporting the head of design. Our client has won multiple framework, enabling a high work load for the duration of CP6.

We are looking for a signalling design manager who is career driven and is looking for the next chapter in their career, you will be growing a strong team of designers who are knowledgeable in the industry. We need a manager who is focused but also have the skills required to bond with the current team members, building and managing the team to complete the signalling framework.

Role and Responsibility:

  • Functionally manage the Signalling Design Group at the local site, taking responsibility for the safety, professional / technical development and welfare of the team.
    * Oversee Signalling Design delivery performance ensuring consistency of output and compliance with defined scope, signalling principles and relevant standards.
    * Implement and maintain best practice signalling engineering processes as part of a continual improvement plan to increase efficiency and minimize cost of non-quality and technical / delivery risk.
    * Provide an effective mechanism for resource management ensuring the accuracy of resource forecasts to support efficient and on time project delivery.
    * Assist the Head of Signalling Design with the development and implementation of a comprehensive design, validation and delivery toolset.
    * Support D&IS business development with tendering activities ensuring the quality of estimates, system description, system architectures, implementation strategies and methodologies. Provide governance and assurance to all tendering activities ensuring assumptions and execution risks are captured during the tendering process.
    * Support the Competence Manager with the execution of the IRSE (Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers) licensing scheme and the internal competence management scheme.
    * Support the Head of Signalling Design to ensure engineering delivery is integrated with all associated company and project disciplines and provide a mechanism for effective communications throughout the Engineering organisation and with other areas throughout the D&IS business.
    * Define learning and development strategies for all direct reports, undertake mentorship, coaching and give seminars to support the succession planning throughout the Engineering business. Undertake and coordinate Performance Management and staff development activities for the local teams when required.

Requirements:

- 1.1.550 IRSE Signalling Principles Designer License

- 1.1.160 IRSE Signalling Design Verifier License

- IRSE Engineering managers licence - at least working towards
